It's been a busy Tuesday for the LSU Tigers. The university named former McNeese State University head Wade Rousse as their new president in the morning. By the afternoon, Rousse had made his first move by promoting Verge Ausberry to the permanent athletic director position.
Wilson Alexander of The Advocate was the first on the news.
Ausberry was named the interim when the school moved on from Scott Woodward last week. It was already known that Ausberry was going to be in charge of the Tigers' upcoming head coach hire; now, he gets full control of the school's athletics.
This is a move that will be celebrated by many fans, as the growing sentiment after the Brian Kelly disaster was a desire to "get back to the roots of LSU."
Few have been as connected to the university in the ways that Ausberry has.
The New Iberia native played linebacker for the Tigers back in the late 80s and graduated from LSU in 1990. He has been working there for 24 years across many different athletic avenues. His two sons both attended University High. Austin Ausberry is a redshirt junior safety for the Tigers.
Ausberry has been around the team for a very long time and has seen it through highs and lows. This was a smart move by Rousse to get done quickly as it will show alignment during the coaching search.
McNeese athletic director Heath Schroyer's name had been floated as someone to watch with his ties to Rousse, but they go in a different direction.
