Despite consistently coming out of NFL rumors still with the LSU Tigers, teams have not stopped looking at new offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. with their job openings.
The latest made a lot of sense, as it was the New York Giants who had recently made a push for Weis. They had come into contact with the 32-year-old coach, but as of now, all signs point towards Weis indeed coming to the Tigers next season, per ESPN's Jordan Raanan
The Giants have Jaxson Dart at quarterback. It was supposedly Dart who became infatuated with the idea of reuniting with Weis and was pleading with the team to pull off the hire.
Dart and Weis had come to the Ole Miss Rebels at the same time back in 2022. They worked closely together, which led to the quarterback being taken 25th overall last year.
It would have almost made too much sense, but it seems that Weis is perfectly fine getting paid a ton of money to continue learning under Lane Kiffin.
Right now, that seems like a mutually beneficial relationship. They could both do it on their own, but are made just that much better by coaching together.
Kiffin made it clear that Weis was a priority as he has signed a reported three-year, $7.5 million contract. Only the top NFL coordinators make over $1 million, so there's a good chance that Weis is making more money than he would anyway.
Should the coordinator market soar during his tenure, Weis has a "look-in" clause on his contract to make sure that he remains the highest-paid OC in the SEC.
Weis will eventually become too hot a commodity for Kiffin to keep around, but it appears that time will come when a team approaches him to become a head coach at the college level.
