Sophomore LSU Tigers cornerback Aidan Anding's promising season was cut short by an Achilles tear during a highlight interception, sidelining him for the year.
An unfortunate update out of this past weekend's Tiger Stadium scrimmage, as sophomore cornerback Aidan Anding suffered a torn Achilles tendon, per LouisianaSports.Net's Matt Moscona. This injury will be season-ending, a brutal blow for Anding and the team as a whole.
Anding was a four-star recruit in the 2025 class out of Ruston, LA. He was a top-200 player in his class, a top-20 cornerback and one of the best players out of the state of Louisiana.
He is a fantastic athlete, starring in football, basketball and the long jump in high school. The ceiling is sky high for him, so it's brutal to have this type of injury so early in his career. At least with modern medicine, and how much has developed in terms of Achilles recovery, he should be able to bounce back.
The tear happened on a play where he got an interception, ruining a great moment as Anding fought for a role on this year's defense. He played all but one of his snaps on special teams last year, but was primed to be a bigger piece as a sophomore. Instead, he'll get a redshirt year.
This is an unfortunate injury for many reasons. One of the bigger ones on LSU's front is that cornerback is not the deepest position group on the team. They have enough players to get the job done, but things could get hairy if they start to have injury issues.
With no spring transfer portal window, the Tigers will not be able to address this loss with another player. Those on the roster will be their only options.
