These are three keys to success that I have for the LSU Tigers against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs this weekend.
The LSU Tigers might be inclined to take their feet off the pedal this weekend against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, but Lane Kiffin should have other ideas as they are still finding a rhythm.
The Tigers are going to be heavy, heavy favorites in this game, so success isn't all about winning. There are a couple of different goals that LSU should have going into this game:
Get Out Healthy
The obvious one is getting out of the game without any major injuries. The Tigers have had fairly good injury luck this season so far. They have solid depth throughout the roster, but they also heavily invested into their starting lineup.
The only two major injuries that the team is facing right now are Gabriel Reliford and Aidan Anding, the two players who were added to the roster, who are both expected to be out for the year.
Anding is a sophomore cornerback who would likely have been a depth piece for the team this season anyway. Reliford was going to play, so that was a more brutal injury. The addition of Junior Tuihalamaka.
There won't be any official announcement of an injury report until LSU gets to SEC play, but the feel is that there won't really be anyone on there anyway.
Avoid The Lookahead
As mentioned earlier, the Tigers are heavy favorites in this game. It should be a very easy game for them. On top of that, LSU has a massive game ahead of them next week as they take on the Ole Miss Rebels on the road. This could be a classic case of a "lookahead" where the team is more focused on next week's game.
The Bulldogs aren’t a team without a pulse. Their offense put up 80 points in the first game of the year. No matter the level of competition they faced, that’s hard to do.
Don't Go Easy
If Kiffin and the Tigers want to continue feeding into their villain status, they should run the score up in this game. LSU had a great game against the Clemson Tigers, and people have started to view them as a top team, but they still only moved up to No. 8.
There are still doubters. There’s only so much they can do against Louisiana Tech to convince people that they are elite, but any struggle will have people ready to pounce.
