With 76 days until kickoff for the LSU Tigers, it's time to highlight the next player to don that jersey number in Baton Rouge.
The LSU Tigers football season is inching closer, now down to double digits on the countdown clock. Kickoff against the Clemson Tigers is now just 76 days away.
As we continue to look back at the history of the Bayou Bandits to celebrate and prepare heading into the first game, there is also the matter of getting to know the current-day players.
Here is a look at the past and present of No. 76 at LSU:
No. 76 - OL Christian Stamps
A number mostly used along the offensive line, only a couple of standouts have worn it in school history. Stamps is the next player to wear it, ond is a fourth-year walk-on out of Archbishop Rummel High School in New Orleans, La. Per his team profile, he started for two years in high school. He has yet to appear in a game for the Tigers.
While walk-ons don't get the most shine, they are important in getting the team prepared to play week-in and week-out. Some walk-ons also earn their way to a scholarship with hard work and dedication.
Highlighting A Former Player Who Wore No. 76
OT Austin Deculus (2017-2021)
Deculus played in every game as a freshman on special teams and then moved on to be a four-year starter at right tackle, thanks to the pandemic season. He holds the school record for most appearances at 61. That is a record that could stand for a very long time in modern college athletics.
The Mamou, La. native was drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 NFL draft and hasn't been a star at the next level, but has become a valuable depth piece and signed with the Tennessee Titans this past offseason. It's impressive that he has been able to put together a career.
A Play That Went For 76 Yards
Leonard Fournette Runs It 76 Yards Against Ole Miss Rebels In Historic Game
Fournette did some disrespectful things against the Rebels over the years. This run is fairly tame compared to some of his others, but it showcases just how good he was at this point. It looked so effortless for him, as always.
In this game, Fournette set the single-game rushing record at the time with 284 yards. Tyrion Davis-Price now holds that record with his 287-yard game against the Florida Gators in 2021. What was impressive about Fournette's performance is that he broke the previous record within his first 10 rushing attempts, thanks in part to this long run.
