Four LSU Tigers offensive standouts were selected as four of the top returning offensive players in all of college football.
It’s year one for Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers, but the roster doesn’t look like someone starting over.
The Tigers have made a sizable investment into their team and it shows. They made a point of keeping the best talent they already had and the bringing in other top players from around the country to fill in the holes.
Pro Football Focus recently went through and ranked the top 10 returning players at every position. As expected, there were LSU stars all over. Four offensive players alone made the cut at their respective positions:
TE Tre'Dez Green
Not only is Green listed among the best returning tight ends, he’s number one. There may have been players with more production, but Green has one of the highest ceilings in the country.
There were stretches last season where he dominated. Given that the offense has a whole was down, the consistency wasn’t there to match.
The size and speed combination is rare. Lane Kiffin and Charlie Weis should have no issue finding opportunities for him to succeed.
QB Sam Leavitt
It doesn’t appear that he was their first choice, which caused some friction in his recruitment, but the Tigers landed a big fish at quarterback in Leavitt.
He had a down year last season as the Arizona State Sun Devils struggled as a whole and he battled injury. That’s probably why he’s not in the NFL right now, as he had some of that hype going into last year.
Now he gets the chance to work with Kiffin and Weis, who have become great at getting guys to the next level. With this star-studded roster, he should be able to put up big numbers right away.
OT Jordan Seaton
Seaton was the top offensive tackle in the transfer portal and now is the fifth-ranked tackle on this list. If he can live up to that hype, LSU will be in a much better place than they were last year.
After years of having Will Campbell, the Tigers saw once again what it is like to come back down to earth at left tackle. Seaton is ultra-athletic and should bring them back to that Campbell level.
C Braelin Moore
Unlike the others in this group, Moore didn’t actually make the cut at center. He was just an “honorable mention.”
The Tigers' offensive line was so bad last year that many might not realize that he was actually really solid up the middle. In 394 pass blocking snaps, he allowed just seven pressures and one sack. That one sack was against the Southeastern Lions. It's been a strength of his for a long time, dating back to his time with the Virginia Tech Hokies.
