Top Three Potential Transfer Portal QB Options for LSU Tigers and Lane Kiffin cover image

The LSU Tigers and Lane Kiffin have a quarterback problem for next season that will have to be solved in the transfer portal, luckily there is expected to a handful of interesting names on the move once things open on January 2.

Michael Van Buren Jr. and Colin Hurley will be the only scholarship quarterbacks on the Tigers' roster. Van Buren has been inconsistent since taking over starting duties and Hurley stepped away from the team about a month ago. They have not been able to land a quarterback in the latest recruiting class.

Kiffin will be on the market for at least one more quarterback, but likely a couple. Here are some names to watch that could end up becoming available:

Arizona State Sun Devils QB Sam Leavitt

It has already been reported that Leavitt is going to hit the portal, and he would be one of the top players available. With how much LSU has gone all-in throughout this process of change, expect them to be in on the biggest names they can be.

The Sun Devils star battled injury this year and didn't have as explosive a season as some had hoped. He entered with NFL draft with hopes after completing 61.7% of his passes for  2,885 yards and 24 touchdowns to six interceptions as a redshirt freshman.

After Arizona State struggled as a whole, Leavitt will likely head elsewhere as he tries to build back some of that value.

NC State Wolfpack QB CJ Bailey

Bailey hasn't declared for the portal yet, but it is expected that he will enter it. He's had two great seasons with the Wolfpack and would be a fun fit in Kiffin's offense.

He has completed 67.5% of his passes with 5,297 yards with 40 touchdowns to 19 interceptions. He also has 181 rushes for 494 yards with 10 more scores. He's mostly known for his 6-foot-6 frame and rocket for an arm.

The turnovers might worry some, but it hasn't been too much of an issue yet. The sky is the ceiling for Bailey. From a pure entertainment standpoint, it would be fun to watch.

Michigan Wolverines QB Bryce Underwood

Almost every Tigers fan already knows who Underwood is. He was the top quarterback of last year's recruiting cycle and is considered by many to be as elite of a prospect as they come. He's a fantastic athlete and can make any throw.

He was committed to LSU for a very long time, but a late NIL push from the Wolverines sent him to Michigan. It was an underwhelming first season for Underwood, with the offensive scheme much to blame. His head coach also just got fired. If he is open to talking, the Tigers should do whatever they can to get him to Baton Rouge.
