The Miami Hurricanes football season didn't end the way they hoped.
A historic run to the College Football Playoff title game was spoiled with a loss to the Indiana Hoosiers at Hard Rock Stadium, but it hasn't prevented the postseason accolades from pouring in.
On Sunday, Pro Football Focus released its annual All-American team. Among the players honored were Hurricanes receiver Malachi Toney and defensive lineman Rueben Bain.
Both players had strong seasons for UM and were well deserving of the nod. Here's what PFF had to say about Toney:
"Toney is the best true freshman in college football this year. His 90.3 PFF grade trailed only Makai Lemon among FBS wideouts, and he is also the second-most-valuable, according to PFF’s wins above average metric. Toney doesn’t have a single drop on 84 catchable targets and leads the Power Four with 623 yards after the catch. If that’s not enough, he also has two passing touchdowns and a rushing score."
Toney finished with 109 catches for a school-record 1,211 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also named the ACC's Rookie of the Year. Bain was one of the most feared defenders in the country, tallying 30 solo tackles and 9.5 sacks. He is expected to be a top pick in this spring's NFL Draft.
Here's how PFF summed Bain's season:
"Bain is one of the top candidates to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft for how dominant he has been as a junior. His 93.0 grade is tied with Bailey for the best among all edge defenders, and he’s the only Power Four edge rusher with top-10 grades as both a run defender and pass rusher."
Both were key cogs in bringing the UM football program back to national prominence. This was its first appearance in the title game since the 2003 Fiesta Bowl when it lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Since, the Hurricanes suffered through more than 20 years of mediocrity before having a breakout under coach Mario Cristobal, who is a Miami native. The `Canes were the last team selected for the CFP but turned it into a memorable run.
