With over 2,000 snaps played, the Miami Hurricanes' elite recruits are defying expectations. From Ben Congdon’s stellar protection to Javian Mallory’s breakout rushing, these youngsters are fueling a National Championship contender.

MIAMI, Fla. – The No. 1 Miami Hurricanes' 2026 recruiting class ranked fourth on 247Sports Composite, yet they have the second-most snaps played among the Power Four conferences this season.

The number is reportedly at 2,104 through seven games.

Currently, at the top amongst the group is left guard Ben Congdon. In six games, he's played 300 snaps, including as a starter in three consecutive games (Clemson, Florida State, and Pitt). Congdon was a four-star, top-20 offensive tackle recruit from Tuscarawas Valley High School, a public institution in Zoarville (OH).

While most of the attention was on elite five-star Jackson Cantwell, the 18-year-old has quickly gathered head coach Mario Cristobal and the rest of the staff's trust. Despite having the size of a natural tackle, Congdon has made the most of an open opportunity from the interior. After emerging in a rotational role, he took the starting left guard job from sophomore Seuseu "SJ" Alofaituli.

In 112 snaps in pass protection, Congdon has allowed just two hits, three hurries, five pressures, and no sacks.

Given the Hurricanes' injuries to the secondary, safety/nickelback JJ Dunnigan has taken advantage of an expanded role. He's logged 290 snaps through seven games, the second-most among freshmen and the fourth-most among all defenders. Dunnigan has 29 total tackles, 16 solos and 13 assists, two tackles for loss, a sack, and a 39-yard pick-six against Clemson.

The 18-year-old was a four-star, top-15 safety recruit from Manhattan High School in Kansas.

Despite joining a loaded running back room, Javian Mallory managed to carve out a role immediately. He's currently 13th in the Atlantic Coast Conference with 444 rushing yards and fifth in touchdowns from the ground. Given veteran CharMar "Marty" Brown's season-ending right knee injury, Mallory's emergence has been a great benefit for the Hurricanes' run game.

The 19-year-old has logged 153 snaps through seven games.

In the Hurricanes' 52-23 win over Pitt, who entered with the Football Bowl Subdivision's best rushing defense, Mallory had two dashes for a gain of at least 10 rushing yards:

- 20 yards up the middle for a first down

- 16-yard touchdown

Mallory was a three-star, top-30 running back recruit from West Boca Raton Community High School in Palm Beach County.

The latest Hurricanes freshman to carve out a consistent role is tight end Gavin Mueller. He's developed into a reliable blocker and scored his first collegiate touchdown for three yards against the Panthers. Mueller is the primary backup to junior Elija Lofton. He's caught three passes for 13 yards in 116 snaps through seven games.

Mueller was a four-star, top-five tight end recruit from South Elgin High School in Illinois.

Other freshmen such as wide receiver Somourian Wingo, offensive tackle Jackson Cantwell, wide receiver Vance Spafford, and quarterback Dereon Coleman, among others, will have spurts on the field throughout the season while continuing to develop for a brighter future in Coral Gables.
