CBS Sports explains why former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck could be a sleeper pick in the NFL Draft

Former Miami Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck has a huge edge entering the NFL Draft.

He is among the most experienced signal-callers, which is why he is rated as one of the most underrated players in the field. According to CBS College Football, Beck could make a team happy in the later rounds

"When we talk about quarterbacks, we want somebody that's battle-tested," analyst said Kevin Carter, a former NFL player. "Look, Carson Beck has played a lot of football. He's made some pretty significant mistakes but he's also played some magnificent football. I mean, he has threaded the needle, he has thrown for thousands of yards and touchdowns, he has been on a championship-caliber roster."

Beck is coming off a strong season in his one year with the Hurricanes. He led them to the College Football Playoff title game, losing to the Indiana Hoosiers. Carter said he liked the fight Beck showed despite switching schools. He also dealt with the pressure of being one of the highest paid NIL athletes.

"This is someone when you talk about bringing somebody to the fight, the stage not being too big for them, who's been in those big moments," Carter said "... I like the way that he transferred, picked himself up after Georgia because they ran him out of town and then he went to Miami and had a sensational season."

Beck joined the Hurricanes after winning a title at Georgia in 2023. He followed that up with a subpar season, so he decided for a change of scenery. He threw for 3,812 yards with 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while completing more than 70 percent of his passes with the Hurricanes. He was in the Heisman Trophy conversation early in the year before a two-game midseason slump.

"If we were going back and talking about Carson Beck after the 2023 season, we'd be talking about him being a top five draft pick," said analyst Beanie Wells, also a former NFL player. "He was that good ... He has all the traits. I love quarterbacks that are battle-tested and that still show up. That's Carson Beck. I think he's going to be one of those on Day Two, Three that's going to make a franchise very happy."
