The Miami Hurricanes were fortunate to have a coach like Jim Larranaga during his tenure.
The Hurricanes were a staple in the Top 25 during those days and made the Final Four. The program has maintained the success under new coach Jai Lucas, who has the team headed to another NCAA Tournament appearance.
The school's official social media account recently dropped a list of what Lucas has accomplished this season.
The post drew the attention of NBA great Kenny Anderson, who is a former South Florida resident and follows the Hurricanes. Here's what Anderson posted on X: "An awesome job" followed by a clapping emoji.
Anderson was once one of the top point guards in the NBA. After a standout career with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, he was chosen No. 2 by the New Jersey Nets behind Larry Johnson (Charlotte Hornets). With the Nets, Anderson formed one of the league's top trios with Derrick Coleman and Drazen Petrovic. Anderson later had stops with the Portland Trail Blazers and Boston Celtics before ending his career.
CANES LAND STAR WR
As the Miami Hurricanes continue to build the recruiting class of 2027, elite starpower was recently added. It was reported on Thursday that four-star wide receiver Nick Lennear committed to the program.
The Florida prospect currently attends Northwestern High School, a public institution located in Miami-Dade County. He caught 62 passes for 1,090 yards, scoring 18 touchdowns in 22 games over three seasons.
Lennear is listed at six feet, 165 pounds, and ranked 26th nationally, sixth in his position, and fifth in the state for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
The four-star recruit received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida State Seminoles, Colorado Buffaloes, Georgia Bulldogs, reigning champion Indiana Hoosiers, LSU Tigers, and Oregon Ducks, plus many others.
Lennear made several unofficial visits with the Hurricanes, including attending a couple of games against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Florida Gators, which they won both matchups.
The program has taken great pride in developing homegrown talent, with star wide receiver Malachi Toney being the latest. The 18-year-old led the nation with 81 catches for 1,211 yards, scoring 13 total touchdowns. As Lennear committed, they will have an opportunity to share the field.
