From Kiyan Anthony’s star-studded arrival to a high-stakes homecoming at Duke, discover the pivotal clashes defining the Miami Hurricanes' quest for dominance in a revamped ACC landscape.

MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program announced its Atlantic Coast Conference scheduled matchups for the 2026-27 season on Wednesday and here are five matchups that stand out in order by date:

Syracuse (Jan. 9)

After three games to start ACC play, the Hurricanes will host sophomore guard Kiyan Anthony, son of Hall of Famer Carmelo Anthony, and the Syracuse Orange. The team finished last season with a 6-12 overall record and went 2-7 (No. 14 seed) against ACC opponents.

The Orange added seven players through the transfer portal, including junior guard Aiden Tobiason. He averaged 15.3 points on 48 percent shooting, 3.7 rebounds, two assists, and 1.2 steals in 32 games (all starts) at Temple.

A significant jump in production from Anthony will be critical for the team to surprise the rest of the ACC. Last season, as a freshman, he averaged eight points on 39.9 percent shooting and 1.4 rebounds in 29 games (two starts). There is certainly an expectation for Anthony to blossom, especially at Syracuse. He will be must-see TV at the Watsco Center.

Virginia (Jan. 16)

The Virginia Cavaliers retained three of their four top scorers from last season, including Thijs De Ridder, Sam Lewis, and Chance Mallory. Head coach Ryan Odom delivered a successful program debut, finishing with a 30-6 overall record and 15-3 (No. 2 seed) in ACC play. The Cavaliers had a similar story to the Hurricanes last season: a scrappy team made progress, but is currently looking to establish a contending identity.

At Louisville (Jan. 19)

The Louisville Cardinals have the second-ranked transfer portal class in college basketball, according to 247Sports. It’s a seven-player group that features center Flory Bidunga, combo guard Seth Trimble, and power forward Alvaro Folgueiras. The Cardinals lost their top three scorers from last season (Ryan Conwell, J’Vonne Hadley, and Isaac McKneely) to the NBA.

However, the team is not expected to experience any setbacks this upcoming 2026-27 college basketball season. The Cardinals are among the favorites to win the ACC.

At Duke (Feb. 1)

Hurricanes head coach Jai Lucas will return to Durham, North Carolina, for the first time since leaving the Duke Blue Devils to move to Coral Gables. Despite losing Cam Boozer and Isaiah Evans to the NBA, the historically great men’s basketball program isn’t shy of talent.

The Blue Devils retained Patrick Ngongba II, Cayden Boozer, and Caleb Foster. Jon Scheyer, reigning ACC Coach of the Year, will have his own matchup against Lucas on the sidelines.

It could be the Hurricanes’ biggest game on the schedule.

At UNC (Feb. 22)

The North Carolina Tar Heels have experienced some changes this offseason. After a five-year tenure, Hubert Davis was fired as head coach, and NBA Champion Michael Malone was hired. The Tar Heels brought in six players through the transfer portal, including Matt Able and Neoklis Avdalas, who have prior ACC experience.

The Hurricanes are coming off a historic 26-9 turnaround season. Lucas and the team are looking to build off the success and take on bigger competition. The Hurricanes will tip off the new season against the Florida Gators at Tampa.
