Five-star receiver Monshun Sales narrows his elite college choices to the Miami Hurricanes and three other powerhouse programs. Where will this game-changer commit?
The transfer portal brings in great talent, but high school recruits have proven to make an immediate impact. The Miami Hurricanes had notable freshmen standouts last season, such as safety Byrce Fitzgerald, running back Girard Pringle Jr., and star wide receiver Malachi Toney. However, teams look drastically different every year, which emphasizes the importance of securing top-market high school recruits with hopes of longer success.
It was reported on Wednesday that five-star wide receiver Monshun Sales is down to four schools: the Hurricanes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Indiana Hoosiers, and Ohio State Buckeyes. He attends Lawrence North High School, catching 71 total passes for 1,362 yards, 19.2 yards per completion, and scoring 16 touchdowns in 25 total games.
Sales has experience playing on the defensive side of the field. He's recorded 67 total tackles, 35 solos and 32 assists, a tackle for loss. The current high school junior also returned six kicks for 48 yards. He has great size for a wide receiver, listed at 6-5, 195 pounds, and ranked among the top-10 for the 2027 class.
Each of the four programs appeared in the College Football Playoffs, with the Indiana Hoosiers winning the National Championship over the Hurricanes. Sales received interest and offers from numerous highly-profiled programs that didn't crack the 12-team bracket, such as the Florida Gators, LSU Tigers, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
By the time Sales starts his collegiate career, the Hurricanes' offense could look vastly different. Players such as star running back Mark Fletcher Jr., Toney, and newly-added quarterback Darian Mensah, along with others, will be taking their talents to the NFL draft.
However, the Hurricanes have a promising future beyond next season, which Sales could join. They have a couple of top-100 incoming freshmen in left tackle Jackson Cantwell and wide receiver Somourian Wingo.
The quarterback situation would likely be Luke Nickel and Dereon Coleman, pending any transfer portal transaction. The Hurricanes could emerge as a more attractive destination for wide receivers after Toney's historic freshman season. He led the nation with 109 catches for 1,211 yards, 11.1 yards per reception, and scored 10 touchdowns.
The biggest threat to the Hurricanes is the Hoosiers, who are approximately 60 miles away from Lawrence North. Also, being the reigning National Champions adds significant appeal, especially with coach Curt Cignetti at the helm.
Coach Mario Cristobal is known as a great recruiter, but landing another five-star recruit in Sales will require a strong strategy.
