After a career-best season and First Team All-ACC honors, Malik Reneau heads to the G League Elite Camp to boost any draft stock available ahead of the NBA Draft.
Miami, FL. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program made significant changes to the roster throughout the offseason. After landing guard Acaden Lewis and center Somto Cyril, along with other additions through the transfer portal, the team is shaping up to compete among the best in the nation. They still have a couple of open roster spots to fill.
Coming off a historic 26-9 turnaround season, coach Jai Lucas established a new foundation, a winning culture, and a high standard. Part of what led to the success was forward Malik Reneau. The Miami native transferred to the program after three years with the Indiana Hoosiers.
As a junior, Reneau battled through a significant knee injury, which led to derailments. Regardless, coach Lucas believed in the Miami native’s talents and recruited him home. Afterwards, Reneau went on to have a career season: 18.9 points on 54 percent shooting, 34.7 percent from three-point range, 6.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals, starting in all 35 games. He earned First Team All-ACC honors.
After using all NCAA eligibility, Reneau declared for the 2026 NBA Draft. He’s projected to be, at most, a late second-round selection or go undrafted. However, a new opportunity presents itself for the 22-year-old to elevate himself. It was reported on Monday by ESPN that Reneau will attend this weekend’s G-League Elite Camp event. He will replace guard Alijah Arenas, who declared for the 2026 NBA Draft but withdrew to return to the USC Trojans for a sophomore season.
Reneau will see some familiar faces, as former Hurricanes teammates Tre Donaldson and Ernest Udeh Jr. will attend the event as well. Each of them just participated in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, an event that invites 64 senior college basketball players to compete in front of professional scouts. The G-League Elite Camp provides another platform for them to reach an NBA franchise’s radar.
Several current players have gone through the event: Dallas Mavericks’ Caleb Martin, Memphis Grizzlies’ Scottie Pippen Jr., Boston Celtics’ Baylor Scheierman, and Cleveland Cavaliers’ Max Strus, among others.
Reneau is a 6-9, 238-pound forward who can handle the ball, score on all three levels, and defend. He has a higher chance of getting drafted compared to Donaldson and Udeh Jr.
Despite struggling in the ACC and NCAA Tournament, Reneau played a significant role in the Hurricanes' turnaround. A new journey approaches, so every opportunity is important for the future of the young forward.
