After fueling a historic turnaround for the Miami Hurricanes, Malik Reneau heads to the Las Vegas Summer League on an Exhibit 10 deal to battle for a roster spot.
MIAMI, Fla. – Following a career-best season with the Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program, Malik Reneau signs an Exhibit 10 contract with the Orlando Magic, first announced by ADS Sports Management. He will compete for a two-way contract ahead of July’s Las Vegas Summer League event.
The Miami native returned home to the Sunshine State after spending three collegiate seasons in the Big 10 with the Indiana Hoosiers. He averaged 11.4 points on 55.5 percent shooting, five rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 94 total games throughout the extended tenure.
As a junior, Reneau dealt with adversity after suffering a right knee injury – missing six games. Following an early exit in the 2025 NCAA Tournament after a 72-59 loss to the Oregon Ducks, he decided to enter the transfer portal. Nearly a full month later, Reneau decided to pursue a hometown reunion with the Hurricanes.
First-time head coach Jai Lucas aggressively pursued the veteran power forward. Reneau emerged as the offensive vocal point, alongside fellow seniors Tre Donaldson and Ernest Udeh Jr. He went on to average 18.9 points on 54 percent shooting, 6.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.1 steals, playing and starting in all 35 games.
The Hurricanes finished with a 26-9 overall record, third in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings, and returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2023 Final Four run. Although the team fell short of a Sweet 16 appearance after a 79-69 loss to the Purdue Boilermakers, Reneau helped deliver a historic turnaround for the program.
He was the only senior to earn All-ACC First Team honors.
Going to the next level of basketball – the NBA – the 23-year-old is capable of being a three-level scorer. Reneau improved as an outside shooter with the Hurricanes – finishing with a new career-high 34.7 percent. However, he’s more reliable as an inside scorer and works near the basket.
The Magic already have a couple of high-usage scoring forwards in All-Star Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. If Reneau is going to land a two-way contract with the organization, he will need to show attributes in other areas. The 6-9 forward finished in the top 20 in rebounding averages among ACC players.
Reneau recorded nine double-doubles with the Hurricanes throughout the season. He’s versatile and fits the Magic’s defensive schemes. It’s always a difficult path to reach the NBA, but staying is a greater challenge – one ahead for Reneau.
