After overcoming a career-threatening injury and leading the Miami Hurricanes to a historic title appearance, the seasoned gunslinger heads to the desert to ignite a new era for the Arizona Cardinals.

Miami FL. –  The Miami Hurricanes have become a successful destination for transfer portal quarterbacks. Cam Ward went from a second or third day selection to the No. 1 pick, selected by the Tennessee Titans, of the 2025 NFL Draft after one year with the program. The following year, coach Mario Cristobal took a gamble on Carson Beck.

The former Georgia Bulldogs quarterback declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, but later withdrew due to uncertainty after suffering a UCL injury in the SEC Championship game, entered the transfer portal and found a new home in South Florida. Despite not being able to throw a ball in spring practices or fall camp, the Hurricanes remained confident in Beck’s ability.

The team started the season 5-0, despite the 24-year-old still not at 100 percent. However, adversity struck after the Hurricanes lost to the Louisville Cardinals and SMU Mustangs, making it virtually impossible to win the Atlantic Coast Conference and claim an automatic bid for the College Football Playoffs. They needed to win the final four games of the regular season and then did so dominantly.

The Hurricanes won over the Syracuse Orange, NC State Wolfpack, Virginia Tech Hokies, and Pitt Panthers by an average of 27.5 points. In that span, Beck was back at full strength. He completed 89 of 112 passes, 79.5 completion percentage, throwing for 1,125 yards and 11 touchdowns, including one interception. Beck carried that momentum into the College Football Playoffs and led the program to its first National Championship appearance in over two decades.

Despite falling short of the ultimate prize, the Jacksonville native went on to declare for the 2026 NFL Draft and wound up being the No. 65 pick, selected by the Arizona Cardinals. The franchise is in the midst of a reset after releasing quarterback Kyler Murray during the offseason.

In an introductory press conference, Beck elaborated on what the experience of coming back from a severe injury and joining a new program meant, plus what it proved.

“I’d say resilience,” he said. “I feel like having the elbow injury, having to go to a new school where people doubted us, you look at that locker room of the talent that we had, we’re looking at each other like ‘I can’t believe people are saying whatever they were saying about our team.’ Obviously, we had a lot of belief in ourselves and kind of knew what we were capable of. Just going out to work and each and every day you look at the edges, you see Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor, and that whole defense, then all the talent on offense as well. It was an up and down season, it wasn’t perfect, it never was, but the resilience that team showed, I definitely define that season with that word.”

Beck will have an opportunity to compete for the starting role with the Cardinals. He would have to beat a couple of veterans, but having long college experience helps to close the gap.
