After overcoming injury and mid-season struggles to lead a historic playoff run, the Arizona Cardinals’ third-round pick secures a multi-million dollar deal to compete for the starting job.
MIAMI, Fla. – Despite playing five years at Georgia and winning two National Championships, Carson Beck’s Miami Hurricanes tenure is arguably more memorable. Before arriving at the Coral Gables campus, he was recovering from a significant UCL injury.
Following Beck’s transfer process and withdrawal from the 2025 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville native wouldn’t throw a football until the start of fall camp. The new Hurricanes quarterback was establishing chemistry on the fly, ahead of the regular season. Despite facing on-field limitations, he led the program to a 5-0 record to start the season.
However, things would later take a turn for the worse. The Hurricanes suffered two key losses against Louisville and SMU, which took winning the ACC title out of the equation. Beck threw for two touchdowns and six interceptions in both matchups. The Hurricanes’ hopes of reaching the College Football Playoffs were on life support.
Beck’s arm would return to full force – it couldn’t have come at a better time. In the final four regular-season games, the Hurricanes won by a 27.5-point average differential. Beck completed 89 of 112 passes (79.5 percent) and threw for 1,125 yards and 11 touchdowns, including one interception.
It was enough for the Hurricanes to reach the College Football Playoffs’ 12-team bracket through an at-large bid. Beck then played a pivotal role in the National Championship run. Despite not claiming the big prize, it was meaningful to the program’s turnaround.
Beck ended a six-year collegiate chapter on a high note, ready to chase NFL dreams. He would be the third quarterback drafted – No. 65 (third round) by the Arizona Cardinals. Beck has the opportunity to win a starting role right away.
It was announced on Wednesday that the former Hurricanes quarterback signed an NFL rookie contract – reportedly worth up to $7.4 million. Beck isn’t an average first-year professional athlete. He has plenty of college and championship experience to deliver an immediate impact.
The Cardinals released two-time Pro Bowler quarterback Kyler Murray following a seven-year tenure. Although NFL veterans Gardner Minshew II and Jacoby Brissett have the experience edge, Beck can provide something different and fresh for the organization. The Cardinals have already begun training camp.
Beck will have more chances to prove to coaches why he’s the best fit for the starting quarterback position. He has winning DNA from Georgia and Miami, looking to do the same in the NFL with the Cardinals.
