Four-star cornerback Jaden Carey is narrowing his elite college choices, with Miami Hurricanes a prime contender for the talented Florida native.

As the Miami Hurricanes prepare for another National Championship chase, the high school recruiting process continues to make headlines. The program is in the running for a few highly talented prospects, including cornerback Jaden Carey. He currently attends St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which is approximately 33 miles away from Coral Gables.

Last season, Carey recorded  17 total tackles, nine solos and eight assists, six passes defended, and three interceptions in 12 games. The four-star recruit has received interest and offers from numerous powerhouse programs, but has narrowed down his options to seven schools: the Hurricanes, Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ole Miss Rebels, Auburn Tigers, and Oregon Ducks.

Carey is ranked among the top-40 in cornerbacks in the nation and players from the state of Florida.

The Hurricanes have been a successful destination for homegrown defenders, such as edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., who's coming off an All-American season and was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year and the Ted Hendricks Award winner. The Miami native finished with 121 total tackles, 67 solos and 54 assists, 33.5 tackles for loss, 20.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, two passes broken up, three passes defended, and an interception in 38 total games with the program throughout three seasons.

From a defensive back perspective, Carey could relate to a few established players currently on the roster in terms of being a homegrown prospect.

Safety Bryce Fitzgerald, a Miami native, proved to be impactful for the Hurricanes as a freshman. The former four-star recruit finished the season with 16 total tackles, 10 solos and six assists, a tackle for loss, a sack, two passes defended, and led the ACC with six interceptions, two of which came against the Texas A&M Aggies in the first round of the College Football Playoffs.

Cornerback OJ Frederique Jr. went to the same high school as Carey. He was impactful for the Hurricanes' secondary, recording 19 total tackles, 12 solos and seven assists, seven passes broken up, and seven passes defended in 10 games last season.

Carey would thrive under defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman's system, which ranked among the best in the nation.

The Hurricanes and coach Mario Cristobal have taken pride in recruiting players from the state of Florida. Carey would be a tremendous addition as part of the class of 2027 and possibly another hometown hero for a program that looks to be a continuous contender for the National Championship.
