Elite edge rusher JaBarrius Garror reopens his recruitment. Can the Miami Hurricanes lure this four-star talent away from rivals and secure a future defensive star?

As the Miami Hurricanes continue building the recruiting class of 2027, the window of opportunity to add elite talent opens. It was reported on Saturday, March 14, that four-star edge rusher JaBarrius Garror has decommitted from the Alabama Crimson Tide.

He currently attends Vigor High School, a public institution located in Prichard, Alabama. The junior has recorded 222 total tackles, 115 solos and 107 assists, 92.5 tackles for loss, 55 hurries, and 45.5 sacks in 32 games over three seasons.

Garror committed to the University of Alabama on July 31, 2024. However, with the latest news, the recruiting process is more open than before. He’s listed at 6-3, 220 pounds, and ranked 86th nationally, 10th among edge rushers, and third in the state of Alabama for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. Several programs have presented offers, such as the  Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Oregon Ducks, Michigan Wolverines, Auburn Tigers, LSU Tigers, and Missouri Tigers, among many others, including the Hurricanes.

Coming off a National Championship, the team’s defense was led by a couple of edge rushing stars in Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor. Both caused havoc against opposing offensive linemen and quarterbacks. They combined for 117 total tackles, 68 solos and 49 assists, 33 tackles for loss, and 22 sacks.

Garror has official visits scheduled:

Auburn: May 29

Texas A&M: June 5

Texas: June 12

Alabama: June 19

If the Hurricanes look to swoop in, a trip down to South Florida and walking around the Coral Gables campus would be beneficial.

Garror would have the opportunity to develop directly under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor.

As the program has successfully turned around, establishing a new standard and a winning culture, several high school recruits view the Hurricanes as a destination. Despite Bain Jr. and Mesidor declaring for the upcoming NFL Draft, the defense is expected to translate over to next season.

Also, after filling a couple of coaching vacancies, defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman remained on the staff. He was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which honors the nation’s best assistant, and led a significantly improved defense.

Garror has a quick first step and the tenacity to pursue the quarterback. He’s shown to get around offensive linemen, but needs to improve on his bending.

Also, the four-star recruit has recorded offensive snaps, catching two passes for 35 yards.

The Hurricanes could make a run at Garror as the program builds toward a brighter and more competitive future.
