The Miami Hurricanes vie for blue-chip quarterback Davin Davidson, a towering dual-threat prospect poised to elevate their future recruiting class.

The Miami Hurricanes have a strong three-year streak of acquiring high-market quarterbacks through the transfer portal. It started with Cam Ward, then Carson Beck, and now Darian Mensah. As the program looks to compete for a National Championship, the strategy isn't sustainable for the long run.

At some point, they could look at competing with a high school recruited quarterback. Luke Nickel and Dereon Coleman are currently on the roster, both with promising futures, but the Hurricanes are closing in on another prospect.

It was reported on Tuesday that four-star quarterback Davin Davidson has narrowed down his long list of offers to eight programs: the Florida Gators, Auburn Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Virginia Tech Hokies, Georgia Bulldogs, Kentucky Wildcats, Mississippi State Bulldogs, and Hurricanes.

He's currently ranked 193rd nationally, 18th among quarterbacks, and 23rd in the state of Florida for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite.

Davidson currently attends Cardinal Mooney High School, a private institution located in Sarasota County, which is approximately 230 miles away from Coral Gables. He's completed 147 of 234 passes, 62.8 percent, throwing for 2,497 yards and 24 touchdowns in 23 total games in two seasons.

The four-star recruit showed mobility, rushing 28 times for 105 yards, 3.8 yards per carry, scoring three touchdowns.

Davidson has great size for a quarterback, listed at 6-6, 215 pounds. It gives him the advantage to see and throw over defenders. He's attended a few School Camps and Junior Day, including with the Hurricanes and Gators.

Also, the current high school junior has experience on the baseball field, playing in multiple positions: first base, outfield, and pitcher. He once threw for 87 miles.

Davidson would be a great development project for any program. He has yet to schedule any official visits.

The Hurricanes have a strong reputation for developing players, including improving draft stock. After one season with the program, Ward became the first pick of the 2025 draft. Beck is projected to be a late selection, but he reshaped his game after leading the team to a National Championship appearance.

Mensah is expected to deliver a winning impact and take the Hurricanes to similar heights. Part of his reason for transferring to Coral Gables was to achieve personal NFL goals, such as being a first-round selection.

The Hurricanes have the resources to help Davidson's development, but an official visit around campus and the facilities could be the difference-maker in the recruiting process.
