The Miami Hurricanes continue to push for greatness, preparing to play in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl semifinals against the Ole Miss Rebels. After dethroning the reigning champion Ohio State Buckeyes, with a final score of 24-14, there's no doubt that the confidence level within the program is through the roof. However, all the glory and celebration were short-lived as the transfer portal officially opened.
There's been a small number of players from the roster who are entering it, but it's also an opportunity for the program to add tremendous talent for next season. It's been reported that the Hurricanes are scheduled to meet with Clemson Tigers defensive tackle Stephiylan Green. The 20-year-old spent three seasons with the Southeast program, recording 34 total tackles, 14 solos and 20 assists, five tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, and two passes defended.
The LSU Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, and USC Trojans are also set to meet with him.
Green was a four-star recruit coming out of Rome High School, where he recorded 43 total tackles, 30 solos and 13 assists, nine tackles for loss, and one sack in 11 games after a single season. He received interest from numerous powerhouse programs, such as the Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida Gators, Texas Longhorns, and many others, including the Hurricanes.
The Georgia native decided to commit to the Tigers on June 22nd, 2022. He helped them win the ACC championship in the 2024 season, also making the College Football Playoffs for the first time since 2019, reaching bowl eligibility since his arrival.
However, the Tigers aren't reaching new heights as the Hurricanes currently are. There's been a massive turnaround from within since Mario Cristobal's arrival in 2022: finishing with back-to-back double-digit winning seasons for the first time since 2003. They have a legitimate chance of winning the National Championship.
It's worth noting that Green hasn't played against the Hurricanes, despite the Tigers facing them in the 2023 regular season, in which they lost after a final score of 28-22.
Also, the idea of playing under the outstanding leadership of defensive line coach Jason Taylor, an NFL Hall of Famer, could be extra appealing.
Green is a four-star transfer and considered one of the best defensive linemen available on the market. He has two seasons left of college football eligibility.
However, the Hurricanes' main priority remains the College Football Playoffs, while dealing with the business side of the sport simultaneously.
