The Miami Hurricanes could circle back on defensive linemen John Walker, who is expected to enter the transfer portal, as other talented stars are expected to depart for the next stage of football.

The Miami Hurricanes are strongly focused on the College Football Playoffs, but the business side of the sport continues throughout their preparation. It's been reported that wide receiver Nathaniel "Ray Ray" Joseph and defensive linemen Daylen Russell plan to enter the transfer portal, with hopes of finding new opportunities with expanded roles.

It's also important and inevitable for Mario Cristobal and the Hurricanes to plan for the future, as star players such as Carson Beck, Rueben Bain Jr., Akheem Mesidor, along with many others, are set to enter the upcoming NFL draft.

Those soon-to-be vacant spots will be occupied with more tremendous talent, whether it's from the upcoming recruiting class or the transfer portal. There is another player within the "Sunshine State" who is reportedly planning to seek a new opportunity, which could benefit the Hurricanes.

UCF Knights defensive linemen John Walker will enter the transfer portal. The redshirt sophomore recorded 59 total tackles, 29 solos and 30 assists, 1.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one pass defended throughout two seasons.

The Kissimmee, Florida native went to Osceola High School, and recorded 254 total tackles, 146 solos and 108 assists, 40 sacks, six passes defended, and 57 tackles for loss throughout four years, 48 games. Walker was a four-star recruit coming out and was recruited by multiple powerhouse programs, such as the Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes, Alabama Crimson Tide, Florida State Seminoles, Georgia Bulldogs, Oregon Ducks, and many others.

The Hurricanes were also in the mix, recruited by Joe Salave'a, who was the defensive line coach at the time. They made an offer to Walker in 2020, he made multiple unofficial visits, then committed to the Knights on July 28th, 2022.

As Bain Jr. and Mesidor are set to take their talents to the next step of football, adding veteran talent could be beneficial for the Hurricanes next season. It's worth noting that Walker suffered a leg injury, which caused him to miss the entire 2024 season. However, they took a chance on Beck, who suffered a UCL injury, which required surgical repair, in the SEC championship game on December 24th, 2024. Perhaps, taking a similar gamble could pay off once again.

Walker could add depth or play for the starting job next season. He's one of 37 other defensive linemen who are expected to enter the transfer portal. The 22-year-old is listed as a three-star transfer, but could excel within the Hurricanes system, with plenty of untapped potential. More players will likely depart as the College Football Playoffs approach.
