The Miami Hurricanes are eyeing a top Big 12 quarterback to bolster their championship aspirations, with other major programs vying for his talents.

As the Miami Hurricanes continue to take the college football world by storm, especially after defeating the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl quarterfinals with a final score of 24-14, their future remains a priority. Given the awkwardness calender of the sport, the transfer portal is set to open on Friday night, Jan 2nd. Notable players such as Rueben Bain Jr., Ahkeem Mesidor, Carson Beck, and others are expected to enter it with hopes of finding bigger opportunities with other teams.

The quarterback position is one that the program is expected to attack heavily on, with great candidates in line, such as Florida Gators' DJ Lagway, South Florida Bulls' Byrum Brown, along with others, but there may be a clear target ahead of the pack.

It was reported on Dec. 15th, 2025, that Cincinnati Bearcats quarterback Brendan Sorsby plans to enter the transfer portal. He completed 207 of 336 passes, 61.6 percent, for 2,800 yards, recording 27 touchdowns and five interceptions, playing in all 12 games. The redshirt senior is also capable of creating plays for himself, rushing 100 times for 580 yards, reaching the endzone nine times.

However, despite the individual success, the Bearcats finished the regular season 7-5, 5-4 against Big 12 opponents, 10th in the standings.

After two seasons with the program, Sorsby hopes to find a more successful situation. A separate report recently confirmed the Hurricanes' interest in the 21-year-old. Given the recent success of the program in the College Football Playoffs, there will be multiple players eyeing them as a potential landing destination. However, it also appears that the Texas Tech Red Raiders, a Big 12 program, and the SEC LSU Tigers are partaking in the sweepstakes.

Neither program has reached the same heights as the Hurricanes this year, especially in terms of postseason success. They have a couple of pieces that will carry the future, a couple of freshman pieces in wide receiver Malachi Toney and safety Bryce Fitzgerald.

The Hurricanes have completed a massive turnaround after finishing with a 5-7 record in 2022, which was Mario Cristobal's first year taking over. They've also had tremendous success with transfer quarterbacks in Cam Ward, who ended up being the first overall pick in last year's NFL draft, and currently with Carson Beck leading the charge in the College Football Playoffs.

Sorsby could be the next case to carry the latest tradition. Regardless, the future is in great hands, but still more work to be done in the present.
