As the Miami Hurricanes continue to prepare and heal for the National Championship game against the Indiana Hoosiers, the business side of the sport continues to take over headlines. After the transfer portal opened, several players have committed or signed to join new programs. However, it's a new chapter in college football as the ACC continues to attract tremendous talent, including Vandrevius Jacobs. It's been reported that the wide receiver has committed to the Hurricanes.
The 21-year-old is coming off a career season with the South Carolina Gamecocks, playing in all 12 regular-season games, catching 32 passes for 548 yards, 17.1 per carry, and scoring four touchdowns. However, it didn't translate to winning on the field as the team finished with a 4-8 record. It's an exciting new chapter for Jacobs, returning to his home state. He was a three-star recruit coming out of Vero Beach High School, receiving interest from a couple of powerhouse programs before committing to the Florida State Seminoles on June 21st, 2021.
However, the Fort Pierce native only appeared in four regular-season games to begin his collegiate career, catching three passes for 60 yards, including a touchdown. After a limited time on the football field, Jacobs entered the transfer portal and joined the Gamecocks a few days later. Now, after two seasons in the SEC, he's set to join the ACC.
Redshirt senior wide receivers CJ Daniels and Keelan Marion joined the Hurricanes through the transfer portal and they've played key roles in the program's success throughout the regular season and the College Football Playoffs. Jacobs will have an opportunity to keep this new tradition alive, also playing alongside star Malachi Toney.
It's worth noting that he caught a 74-yard touchdown, the longest of his career. Jacobs is capable of producing explosive plays. The Hurricanes are also shopping the open market for a quarterback, as the Championship Game will conclude Carson Beck's collegiate career. Adding another offensive firepower talent could attract candidates, such as Sam Leavitt.
Jacobs is quick and strong, listed at six feet, weighing 195 pounds. He's an excellent route runner who can produce after the catch. The Hurricanes dominated the transfer portal last year and they're already off to a great start.
The business side of college football continues, but the team's preparation for the National Championship remains the top priority. The stage is set for Monday night, Jan. 19th, at Hard Rock Stadium, 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN.
