Hurricanes Unfiltered podcast host Rudy Rodriguez-Chomat talks about some recruiting targets for the Miami Hurricanes
The Miami Hurricanes are seeing the recruiting benefits of their success season.
After finishing one victory from a national championship, the Hurricanes are gaining interest from several of the nation's top recruits. Most recently, high school lineman Kasi Currie and Brayden Parks have expressed their interest in possibly joining the Hurricanes program for the 2027 season.
Roundtable Sports contributor and Hurricanes Unfiltered podcast Rudy Rodriguez-Chomat broke down what it would mean if UM coach Mario Cristobal lands Currie and Parks.
Currie is a four-star recruit out Sierra Canyon in the Los Angeles area. He attended the same school as Bronny James.
"It's pretty awesome to hear, a guy from Cali [is interested in Miami]," Rodriguez-Chomat said. "We do have a player from that area in Hayden Lowe. I am sure they have crossed paths. I'm guessing Hayden Lowe is going to be the guy who's going to tour him because they're both from the LA area."
Currie is ranked No. 26 overall nationally by 247 Sports and rated as the second-best defensive lineman in the country. He is being recruited by the likes of Ohio State, Oregon, Texas and Arizona State, so it won't be an easy get for Cristobal.
The Hurricanes are also coveting Brayden Parks out of the Chicago area. He is also a four-star talent out Brother Rice High School. He is rated as the No. 14 defensive lineman in the country. Illinois, Georgia, Michigan and Ohio State are among the schools recruiting him.
The fact the Hurricanes are in the mix is a sign things are headed in the right direction under Cristobal. Not only is UM trying to lock down the local talent in South Florida, it is also making inroads in other areas. This is huge because the Hurricanes are in position to pluck talent from their competitors backyard. It's what happens following success, something the Hurricanes haven't experienced much in the last 25 years.
"Miami is in the mix for some big-time defensive linemen right here and it would be great to see if we get these dudes," Rodriguez-Chomat said. "Mario Cristobal has changed everything with the recruiting. It's off the wall."
