The Miami Hurricanes had three players taken in the first round of the NFL Draft, including Rueben Bain Jr., Akheem Mesidor and Francis Mauigoa

Miami Hurricanes fans have every reason to cheer after three players were chosen in the first round.

It started with Francis Mauigoa being drafted by the New York Giants at No. 10, followed by Rueben Bain Jr., at No. 15 (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) and Akheem Mesidor at No. 22 (San Diego Chargers).

While Mauigoa and Bain slipped a bit, Mesidor was taken higher than projected. According to Roundtable Sports contributor Rudy Rodriguez-Chomat, the Miami Dolphins missed out by not taking Bain when they had opportunity to do so.

"This is where I get agitated," Rodriguez-Chomat said on the Hurricanes Unfiltered podcast. "I'm a Dolphins fan. At the very least, and this might sound stupid and selfish, ... I was (ticked off). I was livid."

The Dolphins traded their No. 11 to the Dallas Cowboys to move down to No. 12. Instead of Bain, the selected Alabama offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor.

"I didn't see any mock drafts with Proctor in the second round but I didn't see a mock draft with Proctor over 15," Rodriguez-Chomat said. "Most of them had him at 17 or lower. I saw one of them with him at 24. So the Miami Dolphins actually traded down to 15 to get Proctor. You don't draft him ahead of where he should be drafted ... It's absolutely ridiculous."

Proctor is known for his freakish athletic ability at his size. The Crimson Tide even used him at skilled positions last season. Still, Rodriguez-Chomat thinks Bain was the best overall player in the draft.

It also made sense for the Dolphins to take Bain because he is a hometown talent. He started at Miami Central High School before becoming a dominant force with the Hurricanes. He helped lead UM to the College Football Playoff title game, where they lost to the Indiana Hoosiers.

"I don't see how you take him over Bain," Rodriguez-Chomat said. "It's such a no-brainer."

Perhaps the Dolphins will regret passing on Bain. Meanwhile, the Buccaneers are super excited about their latest first-round pick.

"We had him very high up on the board," Bucs general manager Jason Licht said. "We would have taken him a lot earlier."
