High-profile flips from SEC powerhouses and a trio of five-star talents have propelled the Miami Hurricanes into the national elite, cementing "The U" as a recruiting juggernaut.
MIAMI, Fla. – Although not finished, the Miami Hurricanes’ 2027 recruiting class remains one of the nation’s best. The program flipped highly touted prospects, such as five-star cornerback Donte Wright from Georgia, five-star edge rusher Jaiden Bryant from LSU, and Ai’King Hall from Oregon. Afterwards, all 19 commits shut down their recruitments – securing a future with “The U.”
Despite missing out on local elite offensive tackle Mark Matthews to Texas A&M, the program never faltered. Even with fewer commits than Florida and Oklahoma, the Hurricanes rank third on 247Sports and On3’s national lists. However, the program’s 2027 recruiting class is part of a far more exclusive club.
According to Rivals, the Hurricanes are one of eight schools with multiple five-star commits – Texas A&M leads with six.
Within the group, it starts with local wide receiver Nick Lennear. After three seasons at Northwestern High School – a public four-year institution in Miami-Dade County – he caught 62 passes for 1,090 yards, scoring 19 total touchdowns in 22 total games. Lennear is a top-20 recruit, fourth among wide receivers and second from Florida.
Alongside Lennear as five-star recruits are Bryant and Wright. Both were crucial flips for the Hurricanes’ highly-ranked class. As defenders, both can emerge as stars under defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman’s schemes.
The Hurricanes just had two of college football’s most prolific edge rushers: Akheem Mesidor and All-American Rueben Bain Jr. Bryant will look to take the same path of success as them – developing under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. In three seasons at Irmo High School – a public institution located in Lexington County, South Carolina – he stacked 204 total tackles, 106 solos and 98 assists, 41 tackles for loss, 27.5 sacks, 15 hurries, and a 25-yard interception in 34 total games.
Bryant is a top-30 recruit, fifth among edge rushers and the best from South Carolina.
Meanwhile, on the outer edges of the field stands Wright – the highest-ranked recruit among the Hurricanes’ 2027 class. As a junior, he stacked 25 total tackles, 17 solos and seven assists, 3.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks in seven games at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. Donte is a top-10 recruit, second among cornerbacks and the best from California.
The Hurricanes managed to gather several elite talents coming off the National Championship game. It establishes a brighter future for “The U,” especially in the near term.
