The Miami Hurricanes vie for five-star tight end Ahmad Hudson, a towering recruit with elite potential, amidst stiff competition from SEC rivals.

After missing out on Honor Fa’alave Johnson, who committed to the USC Trojans on Saturday, March 14, the Miami Hurricanes have another opportunity to land a five-star recruit in Ahmad Hudson. He’s a tight end who currently attends Ruston High School, a public institution located in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. Hudson caught 18 passes for 269 yards, 14.9 yards per catch, scoring two touchdowns in four games over two seasons.

The five-star recruit is listed at 6-8, 230 pounds, and ranked 14th nationally, first among tight ends, and fourth in the state of Louisiana for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. Also, Hudson played basketball, averaging 18.9 points, 13.2 rebounds, 1.7 blocks, and a steal in 18 games as a power forward/center.

It was reported on Monday that he’s drawn to six programs: The Hurricanes, Trojans, Louisiana Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Texas A&M Aggies, and Missouri Tigers. He’s received significant interest and offers throughout his recruitment journey, including from the Florida Gators, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Auburn Tigers, and Texas Longhorns, among others.

Hudson made several unofficial visits with the Cornhuskers and some with the LSU Tigers. He has yet to take a trip down to South Florida and walk around the Coral Gables campus.

Coming off a National Championship, the Hurricanes have gained tremendous attention from high school recruits. After years of progressively rebuilding the program, coach Mario Cristobal has successfully turned things around, establishing a new standard and culture.

Last season, the team split snaps between tight ends Alex Bauman and Elija Lofton. They combined for 41 catches for 384 yards, scoring four total touchdowns. The program has a couple of developing tight ends joining, such as incoming four-star freshman Gavin Muelller and four-star Demarcus Deroche, who’s part of the 2027 recruiting class and committed to the Hurricanes on Aug. 19, 2025.

They officially announced the hiring of new tight end coach Mike Viti, who was previously an offensive line coach for the Army Black Knights. He can provide great insight into blocking techniques, such as explosive footwork, strong hand placement, and balanced stances.

However, it will be a challenge to pull Hudson away from the Cornhuskers and LSU Tigers, who are likely the leaders in his recruitment.

The Hurricanes could shift towards tight end Anthony Cartwright III, who has a summer visit scheduled and is part of the same recruiting class.

Regardless, the future is looking brighter for the program.
