The Miami Hurricanes battle elite competition for five-star plus cornerback John Meredith III, a top-ranked prospect making critical visits this summer.

As the Miami Hurricanes continue to host or schedule official and unofficial visits with several prospects, some of them narrow down a long list of options to choose from, including five-star plus cornerback John Meredith III. He currently attends North Crowley High School, a public institution located in Fort Worth, Texas. However, the talented prospect previously attended Trinity High School and recorded five total tackles, four solos and an assist, a tackle for loss, and an interception in four games as a sophomore.

It was reported on Tuesday, March 17, that Meredith III is drawn to six programs: the Alabama Crimson Tide, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M Aggies, Texas Longhorns, and Hurricanes.

The cornerback prospect is listed at 6-2, 185 pounds, and ranked second nationally, first among his position, and second in the state of Texas for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. He’s received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Oklahoma Sooners, SMU Mustangs, Michigan Wolverines, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and Nebraska Cornhuskers, among others.

Meredith III has made several past unofficial visits, including a few official scheduled during the summer:

- Alabama: May 29 - 30

- Texas: June 5 - 7

- Texas A&M: June 12 - 14

- Ohio State: June 19 - 21

If the Hurricanes want a chance to secure a commitment from a five-star plus recruit, a visit around the Coral Gables campus could go a long way.

After reaching the National Championship, several high school players have paid extra attention to what the program is building, especially the growing winning culture and standard.

Also, the Hurricanes’ defensive turnaround was noticeable. In the secondary, they had a couple of veterans in cornerback Keionte Scott and safety Jakobe Thomas, both of whom were primary starters.

However, the program is currently without a defensive backs coach, as Zac Etheridge departed for a job with the Arizona Cardinals on coach Mike LaFleur’s staff. Despite the current vacancy, defensive coordinator Corey Hetherman remains on the staff. The 44-year-old led the Hurricanes' defense to embrace an identity built around violence and physicality. He was a finalist for the Broyles Award, which honors the nation’s top assistant.

Also, it will be a challenge to pull Meredith III away from home, especially with him having two local programs as finalists.

The Hurricanes understand the meaning of recruiting and developing local talent; the same could be said for the Aggies and Longhorns in this case.

Meredith III will take his visits and then evaluate from there.
