As Mario Cristobal builds momentum on the trail, New Jersey standout Jackson Vaughn prepares to choose between the Miami Hurricanes and several elite rivals during a televised announcement.

Miami, FL. – The high school recruiting trail continues to get interesting for the Miami Hurricanes, especially this week. The program previously landed a commitment from four-star defensive lineman Ezekiel Ayangbile, followed by a flip from former five-star cornerback commit Donte Wright. After the latest success, five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews has reportedly set a commitment date for Friday, May 15, despite scheduling an official visit with the Hurricanes on May 29.

It’s been a complete roller coaster around the Coral Gables campus, but the fiasco continues as four-star defensive end Jackson Vaughn has scheduled a commitment date for May 26. He currently attends Bergen Catholic High School, an all-boys private institution located in Oradell, New Jersey.

In two seasons, Vaughn logged 56 total tackles, 25 solos and 31 assists, 22.5 tackles for loss, and 16 sacks in 19 games as a sophomore and junior. He’s listed at 6-4, 225 pounds, and ranked 204th nationally, 22nd among edge rushers, and fifth in the state of New Jersey for the 2027 class, according to 247Sports Composite. The four-star prospect received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, South Florida Bulls, Alabama Crimson Tide, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oregon Ducks, Georgia Bulldogs, Louisville Cardinals, Minnesota Golden Gophers, North Carolina State Wolfpack, and Virginia Tech Hokies, among several others.

There are five finalists listed ahead of Vaughn’s official announcement: LSU Tigers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, South Carolina Gamecocks, Auburn Tigers, and Hurricanes. He made visits with each of them, including attending Junior Day at Miami on April 4.

Vaughn was originally part of the 2028 recruiting class before deciding to reclassify to 2027, as it was reported on April 27. He will enter the college football world a year early. Vaughn has the intangibles to deliver an immediate impact. However, it might not arrive for the Hurricanes.

According to 247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Brian Dohn, Notre Dame is predicted to secure Vaughn’s commitment. He made an unofficial visit with the program on April 25, which was when they held the Blue-Gold game. The Fighting Irish are a long-lasting rival of the Hurricanes, dating back to the 1950s.

Despite having an opportunity to develop under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor, Vaughn appears to be eyeing a home in South End, Indiana. He will officially share the decision on CBS Sports College Football at 6:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
