Mario Cristobal eyes defensive reinforcements as the Miami Hurricanes battle SEC and Big Ten powerhouses for Tallahassee standout Kahmaree Crumity, potentially dealing a recruiting blow to rival Florida State.
MIAMI, Fla. – Although the Miami Hurricanes have a nearly completed 2027 recruiting class, adding extra talent never hurts. The group already consists of four five-stars among the 20 commits, including cornerback Donte Wright, quarterback Israel Abrams, edge rusher Jaiden Bryant, and local wide receiver Nick Lennear.

It was announced on Thursday afternoon that four-star cornerback Kahmaree Crumity is down to 10 schools: Clemson, Texas A&M, Indiana, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Auburn, UCLA, Tennessee, Louisville, and “The U.” Despite emerging at Tallahassee and receiving a scholarship offer from Florida State, the Seminoles didn’t make the cut.
Crumity attends Lincoln High School – a public institution – located in Leon County. As a freshman, he logged 19 total tackles, 14 solos and five assists, a tackle for loss, and five sacks, according to MaxPreps. However, sophomore statistics aren’t available on the site. The Tallahassee prospect is ranked 322nd nationally, 34th among cornerbacks, and 49th in the state of Florida for the 2028 class, according to 247Sports Composite.
Other universities, including Florida, Georgia, Oregon, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, showed interest and offered scholarships throughout the recruiting process. However, they didn’t make the final 10 cut.
Crumity made a handful of unofficial visits, but none yet to the Coral Gables campus.
Despite not having the complete stats to show it, the four-star cornerback is developing into a disruptor in the passing game. He’s listed at six feet, 173 pounds. Given the 2027 class’ near completion, the focus from the program will significantly shift to 2028. The Hurricanes already received two verbal commits from four-star offensive tackle Kweli Fielder and three-star quarterback Knox Annis.
Coming off the National Championship game, the breakthrough 13-3 season continues to show its impact. Several recruits view “The U” as a desirable destination – not only to develop – but to compete for titles. Since the Gators and Seminoles aren’t in the mix this far into Crumity’s recruitment, it gives coach Mario Cristobal and newly-promoted cornerbacks coach Terry Jefferson the edge to keep him close to home.
Although the Hurricanes have proven to land recruits from outside the state – 60 percent of the 2027 class aren’t from Florida – maintaining talent from the inside is certainly a priority. Crumity still has a journey ahead before making a decision. However, the Hurricanes have an opportunity to keep solidifying a bright future.
