The Miami Hurricanes shifted a late regular-season showdown against Coach James Franklin and the Virginia Tech Hokies to Nov. 21.
Miami, FL. – The Miami Hurricanes have announced the kick-off time for a couple of games in the upcoming schedule. In the season opener against the Stanford Cardinal, in California, the matchup will commence at 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on ESPN. In the following weeks, the team will take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, a historic rival, in South Bend, Indiana, starting at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time. It will stream on NBC and Peacock.
Coming off a National Championship appearance, the Hurricanes are slated for national television exposure. However, there has been an important update to the schedule. The team will face the Virginia Tech Hokies on Nov. 21, rather than the 20th as originally planned, in Hard Rock Stadium. The kickoff time for the game has not been announced yet.
The Hurricanes faced the Hokies last season at Lane Stadium/Worsham Field on Nov. 22, 2025. They secured a 34-17 victory after quarterback Carson Beck completed 27 of 32 passes, 84.4 completion percentage, throwing for 340 yards and four touchdowns. Homegrown star wide receiver Malachi Toney caught 12 of those passes for 162 yards, scoring a 20-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.
Both programs underwent significant changes throughout the offseason.
The Hokies hired James Franklin as the new head coach after spending 11 years with the Penn State Natty Lions, signing a five-year, $41.75 million contract. The team went 3-9 overall, 2-6 in ACC play last season. The 54-year-old looks to rebuild another program from the ground up, as he did with Penn State and the Vanderbilt Commodores.
The previous time the Hokies traveled to Hard Rock Stadium, they suffered a 38-34 loss on Sept. 27, 2024. Former Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward was the Hurricanes’ quarterback and completed 24 of 38 passes, 63.2 completion percentage, throwing for 343 yards and four touchdowns, including two interceptions.
Coach Franklin has never faced the Hurricanes, marking the end of a 15-year drought. He has a 128-60 career record, including 9-1 against ACC programs. The only loss came against the Pitt Panthers on Sept. 10, 2016, while with the Natty Lions.
The Hurricanes will be looking to add another loss to coach Franklin’s legacy against the ACC. They have successfully revamped the roster, especially with the transfer portal acquisitions of quarterback Darian Mensah and Cooper Barkate.
The newly-dated matchup will take place towards the end of the regular season, which could play a factor in the College Football Playoff rankings. It will be a valuable matchup for both programs as a new season approaches.
