New transfers Darian Mensah and Cooper Barkate return home as the Miami Hurricanes launches its quest for an elusive ACC title with a late-night coastal clash against the Stanford Cardinal.

Miami, FL. – The Miami Hurricanes’ 2026-27 regular season schedule had been released for several months, with time slots for a couple of games having been announced, such as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish matchup kicking off at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time, streaming on NBC and Peacock. The program hasn’t won at South Bend, Indiana, since Oct. 6, 1984, 1-12 all-time.

However, the team won’t face the historic rival until Saturday, Nov. 7. They will kick off the season against the Stanford Cardinal in Northern California. The Hurricanes officially announced a 9:00 p.m. start on Sept 9, streaming on ESPN.

It will mark the debuts of a few new players, including All-ACC quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate, both transferring from the Duke Blue Devils. They’re expected to elevate the Hurricanes’ offense, competing among the best in the nation. It will be the first game without either edge rusher Akheem Mesidor or All-American Rueben Bain Jr. However, Damon Wilson II, Marquise Lightfoot, and Hayden Lowe are looking to take over on the ends.

Mensah and Barkate’s new journey will start at home, both being California natives.

The Hurricanes previously faced the Cardinal last season at Hard Rock Stadium on Oct. 25, 2025. The team secured a 42-7 victory after homegrown star running back Mark Fletcher Jr. rushed 23 times for 106 yards, scoring three touchdowns. Quarterback Carson Beck completed 21 of 28 passes, a 75 percent completion, throwing for 189 yards and a five-yard touchdown to wide receiver CJ Daniels.

Defensively, linebacker Wesley Bissainthe and cornerback Xavier Lucas both intercepted a pass. The unit held the Cardinal to 144 total yards. They had redshirt senior quarterback Ben Gulbranson running the offense, but struggled against the Hurricanes’ swarming defense. He completed nine of 21 passes, 42.9 percent completion, throwing for 50 yards, a touchdown, two interceptions, and was sacked by Lucas and defensive tackle Armondo Blount.

The Cardinal brought in six new players through the transfer portal, including former Michigan Wolverines quarterback Davis Warren, who didn’t play in a single game last season.

The Hurricanes look to claim the first ACC football title in program history. The journey starts right away against the Cardinal. Winning the ACC Championship would provide an automatic bid into the College Football Playoffs, potentially a first-round bye.

After reaching the National Championship game, a new winning foundation and standard have officially been set. However, a new season presents new opportunities to do more.
