Talented four-star linemen eye Miami. Can the Hurricanes secure future trench talent after a championship run?
The Miami Hurricanes carved out a National Championship run by winning battles in the trenches. The offensive line was among the best in the nation, led by right tackle Francis Mauigoa, center James Brockermeyer, left tackle Markel Bell, and right guard Anez Cooper. Despite allowing 19 sacks, they played a tremendous role in the Hurricanes' success, especially when establishing the run game.
However, as each of them has declared for the NFL draft, it leaves new opportunities for others to step up. As the program works with a reshaped offensive line, including five-star incoming freshman Jackson Cantwell, the recruiting process continues with a couple of four-stars eyeing the Hurricanes as their next landing destinations.
It was reported on Thursday that right guard Jordan Agbanoma from Georgia and left tackle Jimmy Kalis from Pennsylvania are narrowing down their options of programs to commit to, including the Hurricanes. They have the Georgia Bulldogs as a common program for expressing interest and making an offer.
Agbanoma is ranked among the top 100 of the 2027 high school class. He's narrowed down to the Hurricanes, Bulldogs, Florida Gators, Texas A&M Aggies, and Nebraska Cornhuskers. The Georgia native is versatile enough to be effective at both guard and tackle.
Kalis flies more under the radar, but has attractive traits for an offensive lineman. He provides size, listed at 6-6, 280 pounds, possesses great athleticism, and shows effective strength at the point of attack.
The Hurricanes are emerging as a top destination for offensive linemen, especially under coach Mario Cristobal's regime.
Landing commitments from both Kalis and Agbanoma would be tremendous for the program's future. The Hurricanes currently have four commitments as part of the 2027 class: four-star wide receiver Ah'Mari Stevens, three-star offensive tackle Zaquan Linton, edge rusher Demarcus Deroche, and safety Jaylyn Jones.
Coach Cristobal is known to take extra pride in developing the offensive line, having played the position for the Hurricanes from 1989 to 1992. Plus, coach Mirabal is widely considered among the top offensive line developers in the nation.
Even if Kalis and Agbanoma commit to other programs, the Hurricanes could make final pushes to pursue them. The class of 2027 is still months away from National Signing Day.
Coming off a National Championship appearance, the Hurricanes are experiencing a turnaround. After years of mediocrity, they're now showing signs of competitiveness.
Coach Cristobal looks to keep the program moving forward for years to come.
