Four standouts secured Second-Team honors as the fifth-seeded Miami Hurricanes head to Charlotte, led by Daniel Cuvet’s historic power display and Rob Evans’ dominant breakout season on the mound.
Miami, FL - The Miami Hurricanes concluded the 2026 NCAA baseball regular season with a 36-17 overall record, 16-14 against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents. Despite the ups and downs, the team secured the fifth seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.
As they head to Charlotte, North Carolina, and await the winner of the Stanford Cardinal-California Golden Bears, a few players from the Hurricanes officially earned ACC honors.
Starting with junior All-American third baseman Daniel Cuvet, who made the All-ACC Second Team. Despite being cut short of a full regular season due to a back stress fracture, the 21-year-old still made significant strides. Cuvet logged 46 hits in 151 at-bats, 14 doubles, a triple, 49 runs scored, 12 home runs, 45 runs batted in, a .305 batting average, and a 1.086 OP.
The homegrown star stood with the Hurricanes for all three collegiate seasons. As Cuvet will soon depart from the program, declaring for the 2026 MLB Draft, he will leave a significant mark by finishing second in all-time home runs with a total of 54. Despite dealing with uncertainty in playing in the ACC Tournament, the third baseman officially earned conference honors in all three seasons with the program.
Following Cuvet was senior left-handed pitcher Rob Evans. He emerged as the Hurricanes’ best player on the mound this season, not starting in a single game the previous year. The 22-year-old was one of the ACC’s prolific pitchers, earning Second-Team honors.
Evans appeared in 14 games, including 13 starts, finished the regular season with a 9-3 record, and an ERA of 3.21. Despite the Hurricanes’ inconsistencies on the mound, the New York native provided great stability. He was short of being the first pitcher since Michael Mediavilla in 2016 to carve out double-digit wins in a single season.
The next on the ACC’s Second Team list was junior catcher Alex Sosa. The Viera native transferred to the Coral Gables campus after two seasons in the ACC with the North Carolina State Wolfpack. After a full season of a hometown reunion, Sosa delivered a significant impact. He recorded 66 hits in 197 at-bats, 14 doubles, two triples, 57 runs scored, led the team with 16 home runs, 64 runs batted in, a batting average of .335, and a 1.118 OPS.
Sosa was the Hurricanes’ primary catcher, stripping away seven stolen bases in 30 attempts. Despite handling inconsistencies on the mound, he kept showing strong leadership.
Finally, fifth-year senior right fielder Derek Williams was among the nation’s best hitters. He finished the regular season with career-highs across the board, earning All-ACC Second Team honors. Williams logged 74 hits in 190 at-bats, 15 doubles, 50 runs scored, 15 home runs, 66 runs batted in, a batting average of .389 [21st best in Division I], and an OPS of 1.180.
In addition, catcher/designated hitter Alonzo Alvarez was named to the ACC’s All-Freshmen Team. He’s appeared in 45 games, including 39 starts, logging 43 hits in 143 at-bats, 11 doubles, two triples, 33 runs scored, four home runs, 26 runs batted in, a .301 batting average, and a .899 OPS. Outfielder Dylan Dubovik didn’t make the list, primarily due to the lack of playing time towards the end of the regular season.
The Hurricanes embrace the recognition, but there’s a bigger task at hand starting on Wednesday in the ACC Tournament.
