Miami Hurricanes fans wasted little to take aim at Ohio State Buckeyes defensive Caden Curry about the comments he made following the Cotton Bowl.
The Buckeyes were upset by the Hurricanes, who advanced to next week's Fiesta Bowl against the Ole Miss Rebels. Curry's postgame remarks caught some by surprise.
“If we played that game 10 times, we know what the outcomes of the other nine would be," Curry said.
Curry was basically the Hurricanes' victory was a fluke. The loss was the second straight for the Buckeyes, who fell to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Big Ten championship game. The matter of the fact is looked like the better team.
UM's tough defensive front line made it difficult for Ohio State's high-powered offense all game. Some might say the game wasn't close as the 24-14 score. The Hurricanes led from start to finish and never were really threatened.
"We keep getting better and better up front. We don't think we have arrived by any stretch, but we certainly think we're getting better," UM coach Mario Cristobal said after the game. "When you play a team like that that's been the number one defense in the country the entire year, you have to. And you have to not only hit, but you've got to be willing to take the hits and keep coming, because that's what it's going to be. If you buckle, if you fold, and you know what, they're going to run right over you. And they had success in the second half. Credit to them."
`Canes fans took exception to Curry's comments. Here's some of the reactions:
It just adds to the bad blood between the schools. This was the first time they met since the infamous 2003 Fiesta Bowl when the roles were reversed. The heavily favored Hurricanes were upset by the Buckeyes. Many UM fans were still upset because they felt the Buckeyes only won because of a questionable pass interference call late. In a sense, the loss ended the Hurricanes stranglehold on being one of the nation's top programs.
It was the last time the `Canes were in championship contention but now they appear back on the perch of the greats. A victory against the Rebels would surely propel them into elite company. The winner gets either Indiana or Oregon in the title game.
