Miami Hurricanes great Michael Irvin has been all over the airwaves talking about Wednesday's matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl.
He recently gave his thoughts on the game during an appearance on Wake Up Barstool on FS1. Irvin said the key is if the Hurricanes can win the battle on the offensive and defensive line.
"It's all happening with my big boys up front," Irvin said. "Those are the guys that I talk to when I go on the football field. You talk to them big boys first. I got to Bain and Mesidor. I go to the offensive line. That's where this game must won be won. I'm not even worried about the skilled set players. Miami's got so many skilled set players. We can make plays."
Irvin also said he has the utmost confidence in UM quarterback Carson Beck, who is playing his best ball of the season. Beck began as an early Heisman candidate before a poor two-game stretch when the `Canes lost to the Louisville Cardinals and SMU Mustangs.
He has since led them to five straight victories, including a win against the Texas A & M Aggies in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
"I trust him totally because I've been with him all year," Irvin said. "Last week, even in that Texas A & M game and we were being conservative I thought because of the wind and didn't want to put anything in harms way. But Carson came to me and said, `Mike I got it."'
Irvin said he's also impressed with Beck's confidence. He shared the moment they had when the Hurricanes needed a score against the Aggies. Beck made sure to make it happen when the team needed it the most.
"He said, `Michael, I guarantee we're going to score with this drive," Irvin said. "I said, `That's what I want to hear, let's go get it' and he did that. I got all the faith in the world in Carson Beck. I got all the faith in the world in the people who he's throwing the football to. I have no issue with what's going on. People can say what they want but show up and see what happens."
The Hurricanes face the Buckeyes Wednesday in a rematch of the last time they competed for the national title in 2003.
