Miami Hurricanes sophomore sensation Malachi Toney joins Red Bull's elite roster, parlaying record-breaking production and Heisman-caliber play into a major partnership.
MIAMI, Fla. – Ahead of the No. 3 Miami Hurricanes’ in-state rivalry clash against the Florida State Seminoles, college football rising star Malachi Toney has reportedly signed a new N.I.L. (Name, Image, and Likeness) deal with Red Bull, the globally popular brand of carbonated energy drink.
The 18-year-old joins Ohio State’s Jermiah Smith, Oregon’s Dakorien Moore, Texas’ Arch Manning, and Baylor’s DJ Lagway as athletes representing the company. This deal comes a month after Toney secured an N.I.L. deal with Adidas, which will no longer be the Hurricanes’ official athletic footwear, apparel, and accessory partner ahead of the 2027 college football season, with Nike and “The U” reuniting.
It’s clear that Toney is one of the sport’s most electrifying players. He’s coming off a historic freshman campaign by leading all Football Bowl Subdivision athletes with 109 catches for 1,211 yards and scoring 12 total touchdowns – receiving (10), rushing (one), and passing (two). Toney set a new program record for the most catches by a freshman.
At first, it appeared that the Liberty City (Fla.) native would see a decrease in targets, given the Hurricanes’ added depth in the wide receiver room. Instead, the ball continues to find him all over the field. In the Hurricanes’ 45-6 season-opening win over Stanford, Toney broke Eddie Brown’s 42-year-old program record for the most receiving yards in a single game – 234. The sophomore sensation scored three touchdowns as well.
In five games this season, Toney leads the Hurricanes with 39 catches for 604 yards and six touchdowns. He’s played an important role in a 5-0 (ACC 3-0) start. The Hurricanes currently have the highest-scoring offense in FBS, averaging 49.6 points through the first five games.
Toney has adjusted smoothly to playing alongside quarterback Darian Mensah. The offensive duo is carving out Heisman Trophy cases with seven games left on the regular-season schedule. Toney stepped into college football as a reclassified 17-year-old freshman and continues to show improvement. He scored one touchdown in each College Football Playoff game last season, except the Cotton Bowl quarterfinal against Ohio State.
As a three-star recruit from American Heritage High School, Toney has significantly elevated the Coral Gables program and is reaping the benefits from it.
The Hurricanes are a premier National Championship contender with hopes of returning to the big stage, but finishing with different results. Toney’s playmaking will play a big role in the efforts. He will be first-time NFL Draft eligible following the 2027 college football season.
