Leaked highlights from Tampa reveal a challenging secret tune-up for Jai Lucas’s new-look roster as the Miami Hurricanes battle to integrate eight transfers before a high-stakes season opener.

Ahead of the 2026-27 college basketball season, the Miami Hurricanes reportedly lost to the South Florida Bulls in a closed scrimmage at Tampa.

There are no final scores or team/individual stats available or reported. However, the Bulls’ social media staff posted a few highlights. Senior guard and Toledo transfer Jamarion “Sonny” Wilson had the most clips.

In the first video, the 21-year-old drove inside the arc, defended by Hurricanes sophomore guard Dante Allen, then found redshirt senior guard Josh Omojafo in the right corner, who met junior forward Robert Miller III at the rim and finished the layup.

Followed up in the next clip is Bulls sophomore guard Chris Davis Jr. shooting a three-point attempt over Hurricanes star sophomore forward Shelton Henderson. Although it’s not visible in the video, the 19-year-old appeared to have made the shot. A whistle was blown, which indicates a foul call on Henderson.

Next, Wilson makes another appearance on the highlight reel. He drove to the rim while being defended by Henderson, who jumped on a pump fake, as the two-time All-Mid-American Conference guard scored the easy layup.

Finally, junior forward Zayden High added a couple of clips. He finished on a spin move against Hurricanes center Somto Cyril, then connected on a three-pointer.

Meanwhile, the Hurricanes haven’t posted any clips. As there isn’t any specific information available, it’s difficult to conclude as to how many minutes the projected starters, including Henderson and Allen, played. Plus, it’s important not to take too seriously what gets leaked about a closed scrimmage.

Head coach Jai Lucas is navigating a completely different roster from last season. Although Allen and Henderson are the main returners, he has eight transfers, two freshmen, and an international signee to acclimate in the mix.

The Hurricanes are projected to be ranked in the Associated Press’ preseason Top 25 for the first time since 2023 and be one of the top competitors in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Coming off a historic 26-9 turnaround season, including a March Madness trip, Lucas is looking to take things a step further, facing greater expectations.

After the first official practice on Sept. 21, this is the Hurricanes’ first reported basketball action while facing competition.

The men’s and women’s programs will hold a Media Day this Thursday for credentialed media, including MiamiRoundtable. The Hurricanes will tip off the upcoming season against the Florida Gators on Nov. 2 at Tampa. The in-state rivalry matchup is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. E.T. and will be televised on ESPN2.
