Former LSU standout Robert Miller III joins the Miami Hurricanes' frontcourt, bringing SEC size and versatility to Coral Gables as Jai Lucas bolsters the roster.
MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball program has received a commitment from former LSU forward Robert Miller III, according to On3.
Following the Marcus Allen news on Monday, Jai Lucas secured a frontcourt reinforcement. He spent the last couple of years in the Southeastern Conference, playing for the Tigers. Miller III averaged 5.3 points on 63.7 percent shooting and 3.5 rebounds in 63 total games.
The 20-year-old incoming junior entered the transfer portal in early April. He’d been linked to the Hurricanes early on upon entering and will soon call Coral Gables home. The Texas native shares Lone Star State roots like Lucas and sophomore forward Shelton Henderson.
Despite being listed as a power forward, Miller III has primarily played at center. However, it’s unlikely he’ll play in the middle, given the projected rotation of Somto Cyril and Egor Ryzhov. Miller III could play at power forward, but the spacing could be a concern. He’s shot 19 percent from behind the arc in two collegiate seasons.
Miller III is listed at 6-10 and 230 pounds. He delivers a big-body presence, which fits Lucas’ two-big lineup schemes. However, if Miller III were to prefer to stick at center, a battle will occur against Ryzhov for depth-chart position and minutes.
Coming from Pasadena Memorial – a public institution located in Harris County, Texas – Miller III was a four-star top-100 recruit from the 2024 graduating class. He earned several Power Four scholarships, including from Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, TCU, and Texas before signing with LSU.
Miller III delivered an immediate impact for the Tigers, looking to do the same for “The U.”
Coming off a historic 26-9 turnaround season, Lucas established a new foundation and standard within the program. Although the roster underwent significant changes, the goals remain the same. The Hurricanes are chasing an ACC Crown and the National Championship.
The team has conducted summer workouts in The Bahamas.
Last season, Lucas didn’t have consistent production to rely on from the bench unit. After eight transfers, two high school signees, and one international talent, the Hurricanes surrounded Henderson and Dante Allen with great talent.
Miller III understands what it takes to compete among the nation’s best. Depending on role, he will have the opportunity to make a difference on the court. Miller III will have to catch up with the rest of the team, but it shouldn’t take too long to get fully acclimated.
The Hurricanes will tip off the 2026-27 college basketball season against the Florida Gators on Nov. 2 in Tampa.
