Boasting a 10.5-win projection and high-profile transfers, Mario Cristobal’s squad faces a championship-or-bust season. Can the Miami Hurricanes survive grueling road tests to claim the first ACC crown in program history?
MIAMI, Fla. – Ahead of the upcoming college football season, the Miami Hurricanes are the consensus favorites to win the Atlantic Coast Conference title. It would be the first in program history since its official inauguration in 2004. Despite allowing a few opportunities to slip away – 2017, 2024, and 2025 – this year is expected to have a different ending.
Before officially competing for the ACC Championship, the Hurricanes have to finish within the top two seeds – factoring tiebreakers – to earn a trip to Charlotte, North Carolina – in other words: win a lot of games. Coming off a National Championship appearance and an incredible offseason, the Coral Gables program is projected as one of the nation’s top-25 teams.
According to BetMGM, the Hurricanes have a 10.5 win total (third-best among Power Four programs), plus the best odds (-135) to win the ACC title. Given the upcoming schedule, it’s tempting for bettors to press over on the bet.
The team won’t face any Southeastern Conference programs in the regular season for the first time since 2020. In two out-of-conference games, the Hurricanes will host the Florida A&M Rattlers and Central Michigan Chippewas at Hard Rock Stadium.
Within the schedule, there are only two matchups – both on the road – that could hurt the odds: Clemson Tigers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Those will be big tests for the newly constructed roster, especially when traveling to South Bend, Indiana.
The “Catholics vs. Convicts” rivalry dates back to the mid-1950s. After adding to its history this past regular season in the opener at Miami Gardens, a rematch is set for the Midwest. The Hurricanes outlasted the Fighting Irish 27-24, but history doesn’t speak lightly when playing at South Bend.
The program hasn’t won a game at Notre Dame since Oct. 6, 1984 – 1-12 all-time. However, win or lose, it doesn’t affect the Hurricanes’ in-conference record.
According to several betting sites – BetMGM, FanDuel, and DraftKings – the Fighting Irish are the favorites to finish standing victorious.
Coming off a 7-6 overall season, the Tigers are looking to bounce back. The South Carolina program has dominated the ACC for several years, including nine conference titles since 2011. However, as the only ACC representation in this past College Football Playoff, the Hurricanes are looking to carry that momentum into the upcoming season.
Among the several transfers to the University of Miami were All-ACC selections Cooper Barkate and Darian Mensah. Together, both Blue Devils stars delivered Duke its first ACC title since 1989. The experience will be critical for the Hurricanes’ success.
