The Miami Hurricanes intensifies efforts to lure top linebacker Quinton Cypher, aiming to pry the four-star talent from an Ohio State Buckeyes commitment.

The Miami Hurricanes successfully flipped a few high school commits for the recruiting class of 2026, including four-star tight end Gavin Mueller. Coming off a National Championship, the program looks to accomplish similar results this time around.

It was reported on Wednesday that the Hurricanes are “pushing” to lure four-star linebacker Quinton Cypher. He currently attends Millbrook High School, a public magnet institution located in Raleigh, North Carolina. As a middle linebacker, the prospect recorded 511 total tackles, 291 solos and 220 assists, 88 tackles for loss, 21.5 sacks, eight hurries, and nine interceptions, including a pick-six, in 38 total games over three seasons.

Cypher played snaps on the offensive side of the field as a tight end, catching eight passes for 70 yards, scoring two touchdowns. He’s listed at 6-3, 220 pounds, and ranked 187th nationally, 17th among linebackers, and eighth in the state of North Carolina for the class of 2027, according to Rivals Industry Rankings. Also, Cypher played basketball, averaging 9.2 points on 54 percent shooting, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.7 steals in 14 games as a sophomore.

The four-star recruit committed to the Ohio State Buckeyes on Dec. 19, 2025. Despite not scheduling any further visits with any other program, the Hurricanes are making extra efforts.

Cypher received significant interest and offers from the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, North Carolina State Wolfpack, North Carolina Tar Heels, Alabama Crimson Tide, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Michigan Wolverines, Virginia Tech Hokies, and others.

Coming off a National Championship, the Hurricanes seek to remain competitive. Along the way, they earned a hard-fought 24-14 over the Buckeyes in the Cotton Bowl quarterfinal. The defense played a significant role, including a cornerback Keionte Scott 70-yard pick-six.

Attempting to flip Cypher will be difficult, especially without scheduling a visit around campus. However, the Hurricanes are building towards a top 2027 recruiting class in the nation, which already includes a couple of elite wide receivers in Nick Lennear and Ah’Mari Stevens.

The four-star linebacker prospect fit in the Hurricanes’ defense, which embodies an identity of physicality and violence, given all the statistical activity. Also, Cypher would have an opportunity to develop under defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Corey Hetherman, who was a finalist for the Broyles Award.

The Buckeyes recently won a National Championship in the 2024-25 season, which is a recruiting advantage over the Hurricanes.

Cypher has promising talent to play at the collegiate level, but whether or not a change of mind is possible has yet to be determined.
