The Miami Hurricanes pursue elite corner Gabriel Osborne Jr., a four-star prospect with impressive stats, aiming to bolster their secondary for future success.

The Miami Hurricanes’ defense experienced a resurgence last season, both up front and in the secondary. They had All-American edge rusher Rueben Bain Jr., cornerback Keionte Scott, edge rusher Akheem Mesidor, and safety Jakobe Thomas providing leadership and production on the field, while receiving strong contributions from others. However, as each of them declared for the upcoming NFL Draft, others will look to step up.

As spring training progresses, the program is hosting several prospects, including Gabriel Osborne Jr. He’s a four-star cornerback from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Before transferring, Osborne Jr. attended Putnam City High School, recording 89 total tackles, 72 solos and 17 assists, four tackles for loss, and five interceptions, one of them resulting in a pick-six, in 22 total games over two seasons. He currently attends Mustang High School.

The four-star prospect scheduled an unofficial visit with the Hurricanes on Saturday, March 28. Osborne Jr. is listed at 6-3, 180 pounds, and ranked 38th nationally, seventh among cornerbacks, and third in the state of Oklahoma for the class of 2027, according to 247Sports Composite. He received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida State Seminoles, Kansas State Wildcats, LSU Tigers, Nebraska Cornhuskers, Ohio State Buckeyes, Oklahoma Sooners, Ole Miss Rebels, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, and Texas Tech Red Raiders, along with others.

As a junior, Osborne Jr. recorded 65 total tackles, three tackles for loss, two interceptions, and a forced fumble in 12 games.

Also, he’s a multi-sport athlete, playing basketball and running track alongside football.

Coming off a National Championship appearance, the Hurricanes look to remain competitive in the long term. As the recruiting class of 2027 continues its construction, several Florida prospects have committed, including three-star cornerback Sherrod Gourdine and three-star offensive lineman Josh Johnson. Both announced the decision after a spring training visit.

Osborne Jr. made a couple of unofficial visits with the Missouri Tigers and Aggies. A trip down to South Florida, walking around the Coral Gables campus and facility, could leave an early impact on his recruiting process.

Also, the Hurricanes have yet to officially hire a new defensive backs coach after Zac Etheridge departed, accepting a job with the Arizona Cardinals. Regardless, the historic College Football Playoff run successfully established a new winning culture and standard for the program ahead of next season.

The program’s rise in competitiveness could be another attractive factor for Osborne Jr. in the recruiting process, especially with the defensive resurgence. However, the four-star prospect will likely take more visits before coming to a final decision.
