Explosive playmaker Jayvon Dawson joins the Miami Hurricanes' 2027 class, passing up SEC powerhouses to develop under Hall of Famer Jason Taylor as the program’s next elite pass-rushing threat.
Miami, FL. – The Miami Hurricanes continue to find success in building the 2027 recruiting class. Shortly after flipping four-star cornerback Ai’King Hall from the Oregon Ducks, the program secured a commitment from Jayvon Dawson. He’s a three-star edge rusher who currently attends Santaluces High School, a public institution located in Palm Beach County, Florida.
In two seasons, Dawson logged 114 total tackles, 82 solos and 32 assists, 27 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, and an interception in 19 games as a sophomore and junior. He received interest and scholarship offers from numerous programs, including the Florida State Seminoles, South Florida Bulls, LSU Tigers, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Pitt Panthers, Vanderbilt Commodores, and Liberty Flames, among others.
Dawson chose to commit to the University of Miami ahead of the Kentucky Wildcats, Georgia Bulldogs, North Carolina Tar Heels, Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and Purdue Boilermakers, all of whom were among the finalists.
The four-star recruit is capable of playing on the edge or as an outside linebacker. He’s ranked 505th nationally, 43rd among defensive ends, and 44th in the state of Florida for the 2027 class, according to 247Sports Composite. Dawson is listed at 6-4, 220 pounds, ran a 4.66 40-yard dash, and recorded a 38.5-inch vertical jump at the high school combine.
The Hurricanes are building a pipeline for edge rushers, most recently finding tremendous success with Akheem Mesidor and All-American Rueben Bain Jr. They were selected as first-rounders in the 2026 NFL Draft. Despite the departures, the program has Marquise Lightfoot, Hayden Lowe, and Missouri transfer Damon Wilson II looking to take over.
After the upcoming college football season, Dawson will have an opportunity to earn a spot in the rotation. He has taken the opportunity to develop under defensive line coach and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jason Taylor. He played a significant role in Mesidor and Bain Jr. emerging as star talents.
According to Rivals and 247, Dawson didn’t take an unofficial or official visit to the Coral Gables campus and facility. He has summer visits scheduled with Kentucky, Georgia, and North Carolina, but those might be cancelled after committing.
After Sunday night, the Hurricanes are up to 13 players as part of the 2027 recruiting class. Despite missing out on local five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, who committed to the Texas A&M Aggies, the program continues to build on its momentum on the high-school recruiting trail.
