Fresh off a National Championship appearance, the Miami Hurricanes bolster a promising future by landing Georgia high school stars Kweli Fielder and CJ Cypher for the 2028 and 2029 classes.
MIAMI, Fla. – Although the Miami Hurricanes have nearly completed the 2027 recruiting class, which ranks third on 247Sports Composite and On3, it allows the program to work ahead. It’s never too early to explore high school talent and establish relationships – some wound up being everlasting.
Following a historic 13-3 season, including a trip to the National Championship, the Hurricanes have become appealing to several recruits, including a couple of prospects.
On Wednesday night, it was reported that offensive tackle Kweli Fielder and quarterback CJ Cypher committed to the University of Miami, but neither is part of the 2027 class. Regardless, it creates a bright future further down the road.
Fielder is a four-star recruit who currently attends Carrollton High School, a public institution located in Carroll County, Georgia. He’s listed at 6-4, 325 pounds, and ranked 43rd nationally, fifth among offensive tackles, and seventh in the state for the 2028 class, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
Other programs offered scholarships, such as the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Ohio State Buckeyes, Georgia Bulldogs, Ole Miss Rebels, and South Carolina Gamecocks.
Fielder made several unofficial visits to Division I football schools, including four to the Coral Gables campus.
The Hurricanes have emerged as a top destination for offensive linemen recruits – whether it’s high school or the transfer portal. Fielder will be developed directly under coach Alex Mirabal, who is among the best assistants in the nation.
Onto the other commit, Cypher is teammates with Fielder at Carrollton High School. He’s an unranked prospect for the 2029 recruiting class. As a freshman, Cypher completed 144 of 201 passes, 71.6 percent, throwing for 2,178 yards and 26 touchdowns, including three interceptions, in 14 games, according to MaxPreps.
Cypher is listed at 6-1, 180 pounds, and received scholarships from several programs, including the Nebraska Cornhuskers, SMU Mustangs, Arkansas Razorbacks, and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, along with some of the same as Fielder.
The Hurricanes have relied on the transfer portal for quarterbacks – Cam Ward, Carson Beck, and Darian Mensah being the latest. However, it’s an unsustainable recipe for long-term success. The hope would be for the young quarterback room – Luke Nickel, Judd Anderson, and Dereon Coleman – to learn under Mensah and blossom to take over the reins.
Earning commitments from future recruits is a prime example of “The U’s” turnaround. University of Miami Football Executive Dennis Smith discussed how important recruiting was for the program – it continues to show.
