As the Miami Hurricanes continue scheduling visits and hosting high school prospects, the program is working ahead for the class of 2028. It was reported on Monday that five-star athlete A’mir Sears will take a trip down to the Coral Gables campus and facility on Tuesday, March 24. He currently attends Christopher Columbus High School, a private, all-boys Catholic college-preparatory institution located in Miami, Florida.
Sears transferred from West Broward High School, where the sophomore recruit played on both sides of the field. As a receiver, he caught 55 passes for 1,204 yards, scoring 15 total touchdowns, including a pick-six and one with special teams as a kick returner. Also, Sears recorded 118 total tackles, 91 solos and 27 assists, 5.5 tackles for loss, a sack, 12 passes defended, and seven interceptions as a cornerback.
The Pembroke Pines native is listed at 6-2, 185 pounds, and earned nine Player of the Game awards, appearing in 27 total over two seasons. He’s ranked fourth nationally, first among cornerbacks, and second in the state of Florida for the class of 2028, according to Rivals Industry Rankings.
Sears received interest and offers from numerous programs, including the Florida Gators, Florida State Seminoles, Ohio State Buckeyes, Texas A&M Aggies, Alabama Crimson Tide, Kansas State Wildcats, Louisville Cardinals, North Carolina State Wolfpack, Oregon Ducks, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, among many others. He made several unofficial visits, including six previously with the Hurricanes.
As the program is set to host the five-star recruit once again, it should strengthen the chances of securing a commitment. They currently don’t have any for the recruiting class of 2028, but starting with Sears would be a significant building block.
As a cornerback, Sears should understand the significant turnaround the Hurricanes experienced last season, especially on the defensive side of the field. They had a couple of veterans in Keionte Scott and Jakobe Thomas to lead the secondary en route to a National Championship appearance.
The program not only seeks to remain competitive, but also to attract in-house prospects. In the past, the Hurricanes missed out on homegrown high school recruits, such as wide receiver Jeremiah Smith to Ohio State. However, coming off a National Championship, the perception has changed.
Sears could be the Hurricanes’ first commit to the 2028 recruiting class. The five-star prospect has more than enough time before making a final decision, but signs point towards him staying close to home.
