The Swoosh returns to Coral Gables in 2027, bringing exclusive Blue Ribbon Elite benefits, NIL opportunities, and heritage-inspired throwback collections to a surging Miami Hurricanes athletic department.
MIAMI, Fla. – After initial reports on Wednesday, Nike formally announced its partnership with the University of Miami (Hurricanes) athletics, which starts in July of 2027.
The two iconic sports brands have a history dating back to 1987, when UM became the first collegiate institution to sign an all-sports partnership with “The Swoosh.” However, in 2015, the Hurricanes and Nike split ways, starting a new chapter for student athletics in Coral Gables with Adidas. The two brands agreed to a 12-year partnership, which will expire next June.
As part of the new deal, the Hurricanes will join Nike’s Blue Ribbon Elite program. It’s a first-of-its-kind that can sustain today’s college sports world of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL). Hurricanes players across all sports will have tailored opportunities with Nike.
Starting in July 2027, Nike will provide uniforms, footwear, and apparel. Also, the company will create premium collections that pay homage to the eras and moments that built “The U’s” legacy – throwbacks.
Plus, Hurricanes athletes will have state-of-the-art resources through the Nike Sports Research Lab (NSLR).
This deal was likely more than possible, given the success of sports in Coral Gables within the last calendar year. As usual, “The U” starts with football and the program is coming off a historic 13-3 season, including a trip to the National Championship. Then, men’s basketball had a remarkable turnaround. After a 7-24 season, Jai Lucas, as a first-time head coach, led the program to a 26-9 record and a return to March Madness.
Meanwhile, baseball is progressing, capping last season with 39 total wins, the best in three years.
The Hurricanes are starting to regain success on different sports platforms. As more national attention gravitates towards Coral Gables, Nike will soon be a part of the exposure. However, both brands have experience in winning together. The 2001 college football season is a prime example; when the Hurricanes went 12-0 and won the National Championship.
It’s a group that is considered one of the great college football teams in history. Featuring six All-Americans, including Ed Reed, Bryant McKinnie, and Jeremy Shockey. 17 of 34 players selected in the 2002 NFL Draft were called up in the first round. It’s still unheard of for any other college football team.
The Hurricanes and Nike reunite following a 12-year split, ahead of the 2027 college football season. As the sports in Coral Gables continue to rise again, the student-athletes will represent one of the most famous sportswear brands in the world.
