    Marco Rubio says the CFP needs to look toward Donald Trump if Miami Hurricanes miss College Football Playoff

    The Miami Hurricanes are receiving lots of support should they miss the College Football Playoffs this season. 

    Aside from fans and media, they are being backed by politicians. Secretary of State Marco Rubio even chimed in on the debate recently while bringing in President Donald Trump. He said if the Hurricanes don't make it, the NCAA should seek alternatives. 

    "If the University of Miami gets screwed out of the College Football Playoff after going 10-2 and beating Notre Dame, the whole thing should be scrapped and [President Trump] is gonna have to take over next year," Rubio said.

    There's been a ton of debate about how the committee has viewed the Hurricanes, especially when it comes to head-to-head matchups with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The South Florida program defeated its historic rival in week one of the season, with a final score of 27-24. Despite the results, they led throughout the entire game, largest lead being 14, and showed dominance until a fourth-quarter slip-up.

    Regardless, the Hurricanes won and both finished the season with identical records, 10-2. Recently, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis claimed that they're "playoff worthy."

    The 47-year-old Republican has been in tune with the sports world, especially as a former baseball player.

    DeSantis was a third baseman and pitcher for his National Little League team, which reached the 1991 Little League World Series Quarterfinals. While attending Dunedin High School, he moved from first base to outfielder at Yale University, where DeSantis was named senior captain in 2001.

    The Florida Governor believes that if the Hurricanes do not make the College Football Playoffs, then "it will further erode the importance of the regular season."

    If ND gets in and Miami doesn’t, it will further erode the importance of the regular season. I’m OK with both getting in, but identical records should mean the head-to-head is the tiebreaker if you have to choose between them.

    DeSantis would prefer that both programs make the bracket, which he believes "makes more sense" than ignoring the results on the field. He added that if the Hurricanes were to be left out, the loss against the Louisville Cardinals is the sole reason.

    "A national championship-caliber team is expected to win that game at home," the Governor added. "Instead it was sloppy. I think the U should get in but that game will be the reason if they don't IMO."

    Yes especially losing to Louisville at home. The loss was bad but the eye test for that game was even worse.

    The Hurricanes' loss was mainly because quarterback star Carson Beck threw four interceptions, one came on the final drive, with a chance to tie or win the game.

    This isn't the first time DeSantis shared his thoughts on the Selection Committee. In 2023, the Florida State Seminoles were left out of the College Football Playoffs, despite having a 13-0 regular season record and winning the ACC.

    Quarterback Travis Jordan suffered a devastating season-ending leg injury, which also cut his NFL career short, and was former Chairman's Boo Corrigan reason not to include them.

    "Florida State is a different team than they were the first 11 weeks," he said. "As you look at who they are as a team right now, without Jordan Travis, without the offensive dynamic that he brings to it, they are a different team."

    DeSantis then threatened to sue the Selection Committee:

    "We're setting aside a million dollars for any litigation expenses," he said during a state budget press conference. "That may become as a result of this really, really poor decision by the College Football Playoffs to exclude an undefeated team who won a big power-five championship."

    The next College Football Playoff rankings will be released on Tuesday, Dec. 2nd, in which the Hurricanes will learn more about where their hopes lie.
