From Nebraska to South Florida, ChaMar Brown describes the adrenaline-fueled bus ride and dominant rivalry performance that cemented him as a force in the Miami Hurricanes’ backfield.
MIAMI, Fla. – Last season on offense, the Miami Hurricanes made it a mission to establish the run game against each opponent. Although local star Mark Fletcher Jr. received most of the praise, right behind him was ChaMar “Marty” Brown, ready to make an impact when called upon.
Before transferring to Coral Gables, the Nebraska native spent two years at North Dakota State University–only playing in one season after redshirting in 2023 as a true freshman–and didn’t participate in any games. The following year, when Brown first stepped on a collegiate field, there was no stopping him.
The former Bison rushed 244 times for 1,181 yards, scoring 15 touchdowns in 16 games, including five starts. Brown earned numerous accolades, including the 2024 Jerry Rice Award, which honors the most outstanding freshman in the Football Championship Subdivision. After a strong outing, Brown entered the transfer portal and found a new home in South Florida.
Despite an impressive resume, the 21-year-old had to take a back seat to Fletcher Jr., which was a role he wound up excelling in. Brown went on to rush 122 times for 474 yards and scored seven touchdowns, playing in 15 games. He displayed great effort and power on the field, being a difficult force to tackle.
Brown had several highlights with the Hurricanes, but on the latest Greentree Podcast from Ibis Media, he revealed a standout memory from the season.
“Growing up and seeing Miami play the Gators, always got to watch it,” he said. “Being in it, I’m riding on the bus and I see all the fans throw down “The U,” that hyped me up.”
On September 20, 2025, the Hurricanes hosted the University of Florida football program at Hard Rock Stadium. An in-state rivalry that goes back to the late 1930s. The matchup was featured on ESPN for College GameDay. The Hurricanes went on to dominate 26-7 over the Gators.
Although the defense made numerous standout plays, the run game kept the University of Miami on top. It was then that Brown made himself known to the local fanbase. He rushed 18 times for 80 yards and scored two touchdowns. It was Brown’s best statistical performance on the season.
Despite having the opportunity to explore all options with the transfer portal, the redshirt junior returns to the Hurricanes with hopes of another National Championship chase. Although the roster has been revamped, especially on the offensive side, Brown will still have opportunities to thrive on the field.
