The Miami Hurricanes head to South Bend seeking to snap a decades-long road drought against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a high-stakes showdown with major playoff implications.

Miami, FL. – In the world of sports, rivalries deliver a strong sense of intensity, especially from a fan’s perspective. It creates a hostile environment, regardless of where the game is being played. The Miami Hurricanes have a history with a couple of in-state competitors, but there’s a different level of hype when facing the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The “Catholics vs. Convicts” rivalry has been alive since the mid-1950s.

The Hurricanes hosted the Fighting Irish this past season in the home opener, earning a 27-24 win. Despite leading by as many as 14 points, a fourth-quarter surge was in progress before a couple of stops were made and time ran out in regulation. However, ahead of the upcoming season, both teams are scheduled to face off again, but in South Bend, Indiana.

As the hype of the matchup travels to the Midwest, so does the national broadcasting. It was announced on Thursday that the game will be streamed on NBC/Peacock at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

The Hurricanes have historically struggled when playing in Notre Dame territory, currently with a 1-12 record. The only win came on Oct. 6, 1984. Bernie Kosar was the Hurricanes’ starting quarterback, who finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting that same season.

The Coral Gables program has undergone significant changes since the last time both teams stepped on the same field. They brought in numerous transfer portal talents, including All-ACC quarterback Darian Mensah. He will look to end the Hurricanes’ long-time winning drought in South Bend. Given the strength of schedule, or lack thereof, winning against the Fighting Irish would be significant for the team’s resume to the Selection Committee.

The Midwest program will be without its Heisman Trophy finalist running back as the Arizona Cardinals selected Jeremyah Love with the third pick of the 2026 NFL Draft. He will be teammates with former Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck.

In the most recent matchup, Love rushed 10 times for only 33 yards, no touchdowns.

However, the Fighting Irish still have quarterback CJ Carr.

The Hurricanes are the early favorites to win the Atlantic Coast Conference for the first time in the program’s history since moving from the Big East, starting in 2004. It would provide the team with an automatic bid into the College Football Playoffs, potentially a first-round bye, depending on the Selection Committee’s rankings.

The upcoming matchup will be the Hurricanes' first visit to South Bend, Indiana, since Oct. 29, 2016. They will look to break history and stamp the season with a significant win.
